For the record the NHL has it's projected cap numbers from before the season, the same ones that MacKinnon used, and next year's cap looks to be right on projections.
Projections:
23-24: 83.5
24-25: 87.5
25-26: 92.0
Homerif Matthews takes 14% of year 1 cap again this time like he did last time, that's $12.25m per year.
Don't think he can afford that with the peanuts he is currently makingMatthews decides. But it's ok as a fan to hope that he looks at comps instead of Dom's charts on valuation. I just hope he doesn't subscribe to the Athletic.
eh Matthews took ~13% of a reasonably projected 5yr cap at the time, and ~14% of the projected year 1 cap at the time. And didn't think he deserved McDavid money.
TLDR: dom needs to shut the fuck up
Maybe it’s telling that the only people convinced Matthews will break the bank are mediots and fans of other Canadian hockey teams.
Zeke lives to be incepted by me.LOF is that you?
Dom is a stat head at the Athletic that some people on this board think is the be all and end all when it comes to what is important in analyzing a hockey team.I don't even know who the fuck Dom is and I agree with that statement.
I think zeke’s point though is that contracts and ‘market value’ have long been very disconnected from reality especially at the top end.you're not biased this time; just contradicting regular season zeke where McDavid and Matthews are firmly in their own stratosphere
zeke showed his math!I'll let you figure out what 17% of 90M is
hint, it's considerably higher than the 12.6M zeke is arguing Matthews should sign for
Based on his comparables (like McDavid), he took the absolute maximum AAV he could’ve asked for while also not locking in for 7-8 years like literally every single one of his contemporaries because he knew he’d be able to make way more money that way.
So again, it’s lovely to believe that this time around he’ll prioritize putting his team in the best possible position to win a cup ahead of cranking his earnings potential to the max. But like I said, it’ll be a first for him.
As far as billionaire boardroom execs go, he was as good as you could hope.
