Kampf has been much more than just a 4th liner for us, a very good team, with very good defensive results in very tough usage. I don't love it but let's not go overboard.

Hes an almost 29 yr old 4C...he probably won't be NHL calibre by the end of this deal, nevermind being a bargain

I will say that by the end of his contract his % of cap will likely be similar or less than his last deal. So maybe not a disaster.

He's an invisible 4th line defensive center. Any deal he signs should look cheap in every year. With term, it should look like a bargain right now, and you should almost feel bad about it by year 4.

For the record I don't think it's wise to think or hope Holmberg was a viable replacement for Kampf. So I get why they'd want to keep him.

But yeah, that's still a steep steep price

Again, he's a center that plays over 15mpg for a top team in extreme defensive usage, with good defensive results. He's not just some run of the mill 4th liner.
