The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

He would also make up for any loss in contract income with endorsement deals from China with all of those fucking 8s involved

I think Willy was asking for more than 7 at the time tbh.

When you did the compressed math due to his hold out he ended up at 7.75 or something, didn't he? It just worked out to 6.9 the way it was calculated over the full time period

something like that but in the end he got $7m/yr which iirc was less than he was asking and more in line with what the leafs were offering originally.

As I recall there was some exceptionally weird math & cap gymnastics involved where his cap hit was over 10 mil in is first season and then 6.9M for the rest of the contract.

And his actual salary over the course of the deal was $45M, which works out to $7.5M per year.

Depends on when you count the contract start date as. Count it from beginning of the season and he got 7. Count from the day he reported and he got his number or close.

These guys don't care about AAV or cap implications. Willy asked for a number and ended up getting it, he just had to sit a few months to get it.

at the same time, the only thing the leafs care about is the caphit.

If the core 4, believe in the program, they will sign hometown discounts for short term timelines and cash in when the cap goes up.
Tavares, will definitely reup at a significant discount.

Don't be surprised if the timing coincides with an expiring contract in Edmonton.....

Ah cmon man. I wanted to live in a world where I was okay with treliving and not afraid of the future here for at least a few more days
