The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

What’s striking about looking at the Leafs system and some of these trades is that the Leafs don’t have very many NHLers in the 22-25 range that they drafted.

people say it’s because the Leafs traded all their picks, but they really didn’t. In fact they’ve had several 10+ pick drafts, including as recently as 2020.

2021 was they only year they didn’t have most of their picks.

Hunter killed them. And we’ll see about the 2019-2020 drafts pretty soon.

“Best player available,” Clark said on Tuesday. “Intelligence, competitiveness, those would be the two main priorities, for sure.

“We’re looking for players that influence winning hockey. Awareness, ability to process, guys who understand that there are other things that influence winning.”

the big reason why the Leafs have spent a ton of picks on players that just aren’t good enough to play in the NHL.

Interesting notes:

1. they are going to make changes to the way they play
2. They are waiting for answers on our own UFAs
3. Tre hasn’t been able to be involved with draft at all so they are still focused on smart 3rd liners.

I like how many times he said "let's see what happens in the next couple days".
