The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

We could trade Murray to Arizona for Voracek.

That saves the coyotes $1.5m in real money i think.

And we're already using LTIR with Muzz so voracek doesn't change anything about our cap.

We would probably want to get a pick out of the coyotes for saving them that $1.5m tbh.

probably not for the whole thing, though.

we could also take Brian Little's $3.75m off their hands.

Have to think that arbitration puts him in the $3.3 range, just a question if he'd be willing to sign more than one year.

Feel like both Willy and Matty are signing between 3 and 5 years now

I think at this point 3 year extensions might be fine, honestly.

That gives the Leafs both guys for the next 4 seasons and should require the lowest cap hit to do so. From a pure efficiency standpoint, that might be the best option.

when those deals expire, both will be nearing the end of their primes and will doubtless be looking for long term agreements to cover their declining years. I'd rather wait and see what the cap is then, and perhaps also to see how Matthews' health is, instead of giving them some overly high cap amount now that presumes to cover a hypothetical raise in the limit. A raise which has been promised a number of times in recent years but has failed to materialize.

Further reason not to go long right now...the dismal underachievement and failure of this group to get anything done in the playoffs. Let's say the best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour...if Shanahan is fired and you're the new GM unloading these guys in another 3 years, it's going to be a lot easier if they're not owed another 4-5 seasons at a higher cap hit than any other team is paying.

it's actually kind of funny. term is something that's mostly always in THE PLAYER's interests, not the team's.

if they want to sign short deals....i mean sure, whatever.

But isn't the AAV going to be considerably higher on a short term deal? How are we suppose to surround them with anything that way? Especially if the cap doesn't jump dramatically
