The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

But isn't the AAV going to be considerably higher on a short term deal?

It wasn't that way the last time Matthews signed, so not sure why it would be now?

I'm betting the Leafs will choose less term with the lower cap hit, as they did last time.

we need to get Tavares to agree to a NMC, bribe him if u have to. Then trade him (plus whatever it takes) to SJ for Karlsson. Yes pipe is now half full.

Still feels like there's 4 shoes to drop before we can all just relax and focus on just one thing - potential trades.

1. Samsonov signing
2. Murray dumping
3. Matthews signing
4. Nylander signing

Once those are done literally all we need to care about for the forseeable future is watching the team and talking trades.

Does Muzzin on LTIR impact any potential cap space they'll have at the deadline? Would it be prudent to dump him if they can? I'd love if they had some space to add a top 4 D if available at the deadline. Or 3C if Holmberg doesn't work out.

If Muzzin’s on LTIR from the start of the season, then they can’t accrue extra cap room as the season goes on.

Though with double retention deals becoming a thing, I’m not sure that’s as big a deal as it once was.

honestly if we can tick off all 4 items this offseason, I'll be feeling really good about where we're at now and for the future. would also go a long way to giving me some faith that executive TREebitch knows what he's doing.

I'm not sure about this. But I think it only makes sense to dump him if we expect to stay below the cap in such a way to be able to accrue cap space prior to the deadline. that would be the available advantage. but only works if we have enough room to build up any type of cushion (and then use it)

Not sure how many teams need to hit the cap floor still, but Muzzin would only cost them $2m in real dollars to eat up $5.625m in capspace.

if nobody needs help hitting the cap floor then I'm not sure giving away a pick to ditch muzzin would be any cheaper than double-retention at the deadline.
But would it be more expensive? I guess you don't need to do it unless you know you need the space for sure. But the flexibility would comfort me. As with any team across the league I see some potential holes that may need to get filled and I don't mean by Jonas.
