The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

or we trade them both and sign a Reimer or Raanta or Talbot or something as a backup/tandem guy.

Honestly, I think keeping Sammy around to see if this is a breakout is the play. He was a very highly regarded goalie prospect who sucked in Washington but had a very good year last year. There's some contract scenarios (including just taking his 1 yr arby award...probably in the 3-4 million range) that are fine. If he does it two years in a row ("it" being 40+ games of .915+ hockey) then paying him 5x5 or something isn't the worst idea in the world in that scenario.

Safer play might just be to sign him to a 2-3 yr deal now (3/12 or similar) and if everything comes up Millhouse with Woll & Hildeby, he's a good trade piece as he will almost definitely get blown tremendously by the media.

Definitely go for the cheaper 2-3 year deal now and avoid the 5x5. You can always trade him or deal with him on the cheaper deal, and it also gives Woll time to show if he can be a legit starter too.

pretty sure the leafs made him look good. he legit stunk in the playoffs.

doesn't make sammy's sample of good play reliable.
We're talking about goalies. There's no such thing as reliability. Each and every one, an asshole.

But I'm not ready to throw all my confidence behind a guy that has had next to no NHL experience just yet.

Doesn’t sound like a guy ready to ship off to Robidas Island:

Going to have to find a trade for him, or buy him out.

What's annoying about this is, we literally just paid to get rid of Mrazek.

And then immediately hitch our wagon to an even more expensive goalie that now we want to get rid of.

It wasn't the worst gamble in the world, but they had Sammy in the bag, and could've gone out and found just any old vet goalie willing to take a 1 year deal to be a decent backup, and then just ride that till the deadline to see if it worked or not.

Eh, don't know if I buy the team making him look good when his particular skillset is saving high danger stuff but letting low danger stuff in.
