The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I can't see him getting more than $3 in arbitration.

This clearly has nothing to do with a Murray buyout. He's going on LTIR. Sammy is trying to get paid.

1 year goalie RFA deals > $2 mill since 2010
Rask - 25 - 23 gp, .929, $3.5 mill, 5.83%
Lehner - 25 - 59 gp, .920, $4 mill, 5.33%
Ulmark -26 - 34 gp, .915, $2.5 mill, 3.19%
Hellebucyk - 24 - 56 gp, .907, $2.25, 3.0%
Samsonov - 24 - 26 gp, .913, $2 mill, 2.45%
Sorokin - 24 - ----, $2 mill, 2.45%

Sammy - 26 - 42 gp, .919, ????

3.2-4% of the cap seems right. Ullmark-ish season, maybe slightly better, but not the track record of Rask/Lehner that were arguably the best 2 young goalies in the league. Which is $2.7-$3.3 mill on a 1 year deal.

it's silly off season number crunching -- Habs had the 9th best offseason because..... they traded Joel Edmundson.

haha. the guy barely played.

Wow he made a bizarre mistake there.

He just ignored ZAR's -10 completely, even though ZAR played more than most all of the guys he named.

Add then add in that the biggest postive goals lost was Gustafsson at +5.2, who pretty much never played for us.

That's a 15 goal skew to his projected -14.4 goal difference. I.e. the whole thing.

And Sammy is asking for 5.8%, so the Rask contract. Pre contract:

Rask 102 gp, .926 sv%, 22.3 gsaX
Sammy 131 gp, .909, 3.29 gsaX

and the Leafs are offering him the Hellebucyk contract (2.9%)

Helly 81 gp, .910, -1.59 gsaX

His 4th line impacts have to be way out of whack. Not that I don't believe Reaves or ZAR are huge net negatives, but to the point that they outweigh all of Bertuzzi, Domi, Klingberg or all of ROR, Bunting, Gus, Kerfoot, Holl. That can't be right.

Not to mention the Leafs didn't replace 8 players with 4 players. He's not factoring in the impact of players that will play in those spots (Knies, Holmberg, Timmins etc)

Even when he tries to "simplify" it he still makes the strange choice to include Gustafsson as a central piece instead of Holl or Schenn, even though Gus never played, and just signed for another league minimum contract. This paragraph doesn't make any sense when arguing what they gained or loss from last year, and only limited sense even in arguing what they may have gained or lost in likely impacts next year.

Anyways, Dom always uses this annual piece to boost his Objectivity street cred, even though he knows full well that his opening day roster previews will most likely show the Leafs even better than last year. So let him have this, knowing full well the abuse he's going to have to deal with then.
