The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I get this perspective, but I'm starting to feel that we need a big dirty player somewhere in our line up. Corey Perry type of asshole that will go anywhere to get a chance to get a goal and hurt people.

Marner can't play in there. I'm scared for Matthews too, and JT just doesn't have it in him.

Higher up in the line up..like Wilson and you're paying a price...but we need some of those players...yanni gourde types.

That's why I'm all over the marner trade. That's the domino and the culture leader of that room. It needs to go....

If the right Marner trade is there, you won't hear me complain.

one big dirty guy doesn't change the composition of the team and plenty of teams have constructed themselves without that guy and done just fine. Lean into what we are. That doesn't mean to be easy to play against, but skill through 4 lines please.

Except that Marner is tough to play against. Very tough.

How often do we even see him get hit? He's slippery and smart enough to avoid it, and far more often that not, comes away with the puck in board battles. He's not a guy getting neutralized with physicality, but of course, he's not dishing any out either.

He's amazing and incredibly responsible defensively, and plays more of a part in the team's success than any of the other forwards because of his prime PKing role.

There is no right Marner trade. No one is trading us a guy who is better than Marner for Marner, because frankly there are only a small handful of those guys out there.

Gotta fight your way to the front of the net to be there for a tap in, have to read the play to know where to go.

People have been bad mouthing ROR for how he "looks" out there since Junior. He's a better centre than JT is at this point, point blank period. If I'm stuck with that cunt, move him on Matthews wing so we can keep padding his stats but go get me a few guys who can play the position still. ROR can still play the position, and well.
He's fooled a lot of you. He's not that good anymore. And he'll be worse at this time next year.

Also, how will Knies look full time in the lineup. It deficient look like too big of a role for him. Can he be our guy who’s going to stick his nose in and get the dirty goals?

I heard this stat today that Mathews regular season distance from the net for scoring chances is Four feet closer in reg season...something like 14 ft out to 18.

You wanna know marners? It as like 30 ft out to 40....
He just can't get in those spots because he physically can't take it. Hence the drop off in later games in rounds.

Dahlin.

Marner can see what it’s like playing in Buffalo and then re-sign here as a UFA in a couple of years.
This place is being too glib about trading Marner. The only reason he isn’t the best leaf forward since Keon or some dead dude is because Auston matthews is looking Like a top 10 all time great scorer.
Marner for dahlin is a disaster trade.

Dunno if I agree with that, Dahlin is probably going to win a Norris or three.

He's real gud.

That's actually the type of guy we would need to think long and hard about if it was offered. Same with Brady Tkachuk + .
Sheltered offensive d

It took dahlin a little longer to show his stuff beyond the stink of Buffalo.

But I haven't heard the Brady tkatchuk rumour..and you're saying +?

I don't like Brady that much but it depends on what the plus is and if they can add Murray back.

That would lead to the leafs vs sens in the first round and Murray turning into hasek.
But we'd at least have Perry or Brady to injure Murray and we win

Sheltered offensive d

Nah. Mid pairing defensive usage (3rd on the Sabres in Dzone faceoffs/60). Lowest xGA on the blueline, best xG%. Just turned 23. So he's not taking the heavies, but he's also not being sheltered.

Already a decent #1. Dom's GSVA grades him out as a bit above average defensively and obviously above average offensively.

There's no rumour here, just throwing a name out there regarding the type of player I'd be looking for. Looks like he's going to be a 80-90 point true powerforward for most of his prime, locked in at 8.2 million for the next 5 seasons. People keep talking about Tom Wilson as a unicorn, but Brady is probably the true unicorn in the NHL for that style of player. Is a physical pain in the ass to play against, while still having real high level skill. It's not a trade I'd consider straight up, but with some additional value in there, you would have to take a long and hard think about it.

Yeah but he's probably dying to sign with Arizona and will only play there when Matthews leaves.

Anyway, obviously wouldn't say no to that guy even though he kinda repulses me (but the acquisition cost means Marner, I'm sure, so forget it).

I still think the way to go is Karlsson. Fuck the tough shit. Tkachuk's tough shit got him 0 goals in our series. We should fill in forward roles with depth guys and one legit top sixer if we can get him, and then find a way to bring EK in. Having a 100 point threat from the blueline is something this team has never had, and him and Rielly back there make our transition game a whole lot different. It's like killing two birds (F and D) with one stone. And it's about time we added more offense back there, which would suddenly become substantial if Rielly is back to putting up points, and Lilly gets a real shot.
