The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

obviously a boatload of differences, that we all could pick at for days….but I was surprised to see how much of Pablo’s position overlapped with my own, re: The Process, Championship or Bust philosophy, etc…..and some of the similarities with the Leafs/Sixers.

Was listening to the NHL network on the way home from work today and they were suggesting that Matthews was going to set a new pay scale and command 13-14m per season.

What is everyone’s thoughts ?

Personally - if Matthews is looking to maximize every penny he can make here then he’s really not serious about winning a championship.

Eh, was Connor when he pushed the scale to 12.5 or Mackinnon when he asked for more money than Connor?

Matthews will probably come in somewhere around 13.

I think it’s a fair push to say AM shouldn’t make materially more than mackinnon, who only signed last year. If his demand is ultimately over $13m… that’s a lotta cheddar.

Mackinnon won his cup, arguably wasn’t a big part of his decision after being on a bargain contract for years.

it seems to me like a pretty common theme on cup winners is that they would have several key pieces at bargain or under market contracts.

I just don’t see how they can be expected to be surrounded by talent when they want to squeeze every dollar out of the teams cap.

Getting surplus value is vital but the big stars create that even if they demand top dollar.

The surplus value battle is usually lost with 3rd liners and replacement level goaltenders

Would be nice if he didn’t give a fuck about being the top paid player in the league. What’s an extra $2 mill a year at that point anyway?

nothing to him, but a lot to the Leafs.

but ultimately he gets whatever he asks for.

i'd be surprised if he tried to ask for anything crazy given the heat he's got for this contract and the playoffs track record since he signed it.

Right? He's made what, like 58M so far not touching the endorsement money he's made since being a Leaf.

To me it will say a lot about how much he really wants to win if he goes for max dollars.

Wow it's like he was talking about the Leafs.

After having the core four fail so many times, we cannot under any circumstances bring them back. Shake up is absolutely necessary. Choking so many times isn't about sample size, it's about a mixture of like-minded,scared to lose, players. Can't being them back as is. Just can't.
