Exactly what I've been saying for years and why I love throwing the "overpaid" tag at our fellow posters whenever Marner does incredible things.

We just need to get this core some scoring help so that it's not always just these 4 guys. Bertuzzi should be a big help, probably the best support piece we've ever given them. Domi is potentially a decent piece one tier below. At the deadline, they should try to add 1-2 more guys like that.

That's the only thing this team needs to take it over the top. That extra scoring, health, and a little luck.
 
Marner was coming off a 94 pt season too. 11th in the league.

Draisaitl didn't even hit ppg until 2yrs into his extension.
 
Every second contract for 5+ years and 11%+ since 2005, and ppg the year before they signed.

Crosby - 1.52 ppg, 5 years 17.30%
McDavid - 1.22, 8 yrs16.67%
Malkin - 1.29, 5 yrs 15.34%
Matthews -1.07, 5 yrs 14.64%
Marner - 1.14, 6 yrs 13.38%
Eichel - .93, 8 yrs 13.33%
Kopitar - .94, 7 yrs 11.99%
Stamkos - 1.11, 5 yrs 11.66%
Rantanen- 1.18, 6 yrs 11.35%
Draisaitl - .93, 8 yrs 11.33%
Kane - 1.07, 5 yrs 11.09%
Toews - 0.89, 5 yrs 11.09%

Its not so much that Marner is overpaid for what he does, as much as its the most expensive contract given out to a similar player for no real reason.

Dubas just didn't do a great job of establishing a reasonable team cap structure.

I dont think its overpaid but the term should be more than 5 -6 years to 16 and 34 handed out by Duby
 
Man all of the strangeness that happened at the end of last year, from the trade deadline weirdness - to a lack of contract discussion with free agent players, to the eventual awkward departure of Dubas - sure feels like Dubas role in the organization was already in question pre trade deadline.
 
Dubas wasn't big on being Gm here. He also didn't like being left hanging last year despite what he claimed.
Guy got 40 million and has more say than any exec in the NHL.
