The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Gotta remember, we can still give him an 8th year he can't get from anywhere else and if 100+ point UFA's like Johnny Hockey have AAV's that start with a 9, I don't see Willy getting more from anywhere else either. Meier at 8.8 x 8 is the dream, but probably the lower floor, Gaudreau's 9.75 x 7 when adjusted down slightly for 8 years being the ceiling.

Anything in there though is going to be fine. Prime Willy sure looks like a consistent 35-40 goal PPG+ guy who might actually be/probably is and always has been a centre.
I’ve never been particularly enthused by Willy as a C. He’ll always be a winger on my team.

The idea of him as a center simply doesn’t compute. I can’t imagine him being defensively responsible enough to pull it off. That nonstop max effort that Matty and Tavares have in their games isn’t really a thing with Willy.

So Keef's first gut instinct lineup:

Bertuzzi --- Matthews --- Marner
Domi --- Nylander --- Jarnkrok
Knies --- Tavares --- Lafferty
Gregor --- Kampf --- Reaves
(Robertson --- Holmberg --- Abbruzzese*)

* - that would probably be McMann if he was healthy

Rielly --- Brodie
McCabe --- Klingberg
Giordano --- Liljegren
(Lagesson* --- Timmins)

* - that would probably be Benoit if healthy

If those lines stick for a bit, especially Willy at center, you gotta think an easy move would be putting the best of Robertson/Gregor/Holmberg up in the top 9 and drop Lafferty to the Kampf line.
I really like the look of the Nylander line....he might be able to up the offensive game of both Domi and Jarnkrok.

I also think that maybe laff might work give him a bigger faster player who can take passes from JT at the net.

I like that set up a lot actually

Speaking of Tavares, we’ll see if this is the year he actually falls off. When we signed him, a few people mentioned he’d be a 60 point player the last couple years of his contract.

Again, he has to work his ass off because he's too slow to play the position at a top level anymore and he's become increasingly more sheltered just to play it at a 2nd line level most recently. It's great that he works hard, but it kind of doesn't matter how hard you work if the outcome is not being able to cover enough ground to play the position well. There's a good reason everyone in the city, including the organization, had a really good think about whether or not to convert him to the wing this past summer.

Who cares if he has to be sheltered and doesn't actually produce good numbers at 5v5?

I mean, is that really your point here? Because he works hard, it doesn't matter if the results are good?

Your point is to take a comment about effort level to rehash your neverending criticisms concerning the best UFA we ever signed.

The actual subject of conversation here is Willy though.
