The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

It will be interesting. If it was Dubas calling the shots Robertson and Holmberg don't have a shot because they don't have to clear waivers to go down.

If Tree is being honest about giving them a shot I don't see Robertson not making it, unless he blows it in camp. He was pretty clearly one of the best 12 last offseason, and got the call as soon as there was an injury.

Whatever level the key for him is actually playing games this year though.

Nobody would be concerned if the issue was simply that he hadn’t “established himself” in the NHL by his age 21 season.

The issue is that he suffers a season-ending injury whenever he’s hit with so much as a stiff breeze, and as a result has played a grand total of 86 games of professional hockey in his last 1300+ days.

I’m guessing that’s not the case with too many other guys on that list.

i'll bet on the talent and work ethic. the two most signicifant injuries have been weird ones.

lol, bullshit. Are you new to Toronto?

I mean, this is also bullshit. Both injuries were on dirty hits. The leg break in the AHL was a bad charge, and the shoulder was on a hit way before Robbie and the Kings defender were set to engage for the puck (and was subsequently called a penalty).

I'm not saying that 1) Eating dirty hits and not dying aren't part of the game or 2) That Robbie shouldn't have been able to tank one or both of them without season ending surgeries but this "stiff breeze" shit is bullshit editorializing on two dirty hits.

Even if the other reasons to keep on being patient with Robertson aren't enough, the Leafs need to find the next wave of talent to put in behind Matthews and company sometime in the next few years. With so many picks out the door, Amirov's tragedy, and lack of depth in the system that is simply not there right now. He needs to get more of a look for that reason alone.

That's part of my Robertson equation, yeah.

No one in the organization has his ceiling. There's a 40+ goal scorer in there if he doesn't die. Him turning into even a portion of what he can be would be huge for the ability of this team to win a cup.

Would be amazing. And not completely unexpected.

But if he can't put together a healthy campaign this year, I don't know when he'll ever do it.

As much crap as the leafs get for having no kids the truth is there's not a lot of teams, definitely not a lot of top teams, that have two kids with tbe upside of knies and robertson ready to inject into their lineup this year.

I think we have a decent number of good prospects, especially considering how many picks we’ve traded and how competitive we’ve been. Shockingly good.

After hearing Nylander's comments about Toronto/contract, he's likely a goner if he doesn't get his number

Gotta remember, we can still give him an 8th year he can't get from anywhere else and if 100+ point UFA's like Johnny Hockey have AAV's that start with a 9, I don't see Willy getting more from anywhere else either. Meier at 8.8 x 8 is the dream, but probably the lower floor, Gaudreau's 9.75 x 7 when adjusted down slightly for 8 years being the ceiling.

Anything in there though is going to be fine. Prime Willy sure looks like a consistent 35-40 goal PPG+ guy who might actually be/probably is and always has been a centre.
