The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

The new guy is gonna get the job based on his pitch on how he’d change things. And the crux of that pitch isn’t gonna be that he’d let ZAR walk as a UFA. Keeping things mostly the same is not going to land anyone the job here.

they don't need to move any core pieces to make big changes.

I was never a big Dubas guy, but not like i didn't want him to succeed. So much promise with this group and he just couldn't get the right parts finish the product.

I'm guessing Shanahan and the suits have had a fewn names in mind for sometime.
I’ll always wonder, given how close each loss was, whether we’d have advanced if he just didn’t do those Engvall and Sandin trades. I’m sure it sounds silly to most, but I think those cost him the round and his job.

Pro tip - no more trading while completely hammered at the next gig.

When I think of Dubas now. I think or Sad Keanu meme
I think of a man who had a vision, doubted it and eventually panicked when he wasn't getting results. He stopped believing in the process and panicked to change course near the end. In his final days and I can't say the team had much "direction" in the end. He had to go. He just seemed confused and without answers in his final presser, and most importantly broken. A sign of a man who choked under the pressure of the market and let the "noise" impact his decisions.

But the potential replacement absolutely frightens me. This could all easily go to complete shit. It shouldn't.. there oughtta be a fuckton of qualified guys out there, but this is the NHL we're talking about. I don't have complete faith.

Ya. I liked cocky nerd Dubas, he caved too easily and fell in love with players too easily.

How would anything else be a big change?

I mean, I’m with you, the “big change” I’d make is filling the open spots with skill and speed, and to the extent they come with some nasty, all the better.

But I don’t think that’s going to be the “big change” the new guy will sell them on.

Super interested to see what shanny says at 3. Will give us some insight regarding the way forward. If its all old school platitudes about being tougher to play against, etc....i start to get concerned.

I might get shot for this but I think the drafting record of Ron Hextall in Philly and LA is very strong.

I just heard he’s an impossible asshole

Very very concerned we go old school boomer.

And I agree I'm super curious to see what Shanahan will say - will be enlightening. Always kinda wondered if he wasn't pulling more strings on the types of players we were bringing in or not.

Shanny is still here, I don't think he resets and goes "Old School".

I think Shanny probably wanted big changes (fire the coach, make AM captain, trade Tavares ) and Dubas was probably to "attached" to them (Keefe) to make those changes.

Hopefully, he brings in a "better" nerd.

Dubas will put a good team together in Calgary or Pittsburgh, somewhere where he won't lose his nerve.
