The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Removing Kyle isn't the solution - finding a better fit is. And its the same on the ice.

Will explore any improvements they can make on the ice. Not directed at any one player or person. Now we're into the vagueries.

i could see how dubas doing nothing but sending an email and a huge increase in contract demand would just reinforce everything that presser seemed to indicate about dubas' state of mind.

Shannahan definitely framed it that way….but contract talks usually come down to agent & team, especially at the final stages.

I usually laugh at these ex hockey players strapping on suits and playing pretend executive but this guy plays the role scary well.

Hiring his is one of the best moves we ever made….always be thankful he took the analytics approach he did, invest in it as heavily as he did, and stuck with Dubas as long as he did..

I think he's the dream when owners try to fit an ex-player into the C level suite

i think shanny said it was the agent that actually gave him the big increased demand. but not sure that matters - if shanny isn't lying, then a last second bump like that after months of talks, especially when shanny said he felt that they had pretty much already agreed on the general outlines of the contract, is a pretty shitty move.

I get that that was riveting, and it was mind blowing moment to moment……but I think when people have time to reflect on what we just witnessed, they’ll have a much different take on it.

He kinda burried Dubas in a pretty shitty way….while basically blaming Dubas for his own firing,

I liked everything Shanahan said and fully support him in this decision. The one scary moment is the "I want an experienced GM" comment. I can't think of a single "experienced GM" that is available that I'd want. But someone make me feel better about that...

Who is available that is experienced at winning?

Kyle was in tears crying about not knowing if he wants to be the GM of the Leafs and then asks for money on top of that. I'm sorry but he did it to himself.

They made their first offer….the agent made a counter offer.

Shanny balked cause of the presser…

Is Marner's dad his agent?

Thank heavens Shanny wasn't just a brute, but a skilled and accomplished scorer.

The more I'm hearing and thinking about things, maybe he too was like, what the fuck are you doing on these Engvall, Sandin, Lafferty, Kerf, etc. moves? Maybe Dubie was taking orders from below (Keefe) instead of above, and while we were improving still, Dubie's recent behavior made prior "ok, I guess, if you think that's right" moves suddenly look more like "shit, you don't really know what the fuck you're doing anymore" moves.

Because would Shanny be more the type to want to see more skill and scoring and grit added, or someone who wants to see the losers on the fourth line showcased?
