The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

…and he showed emotion because he said he just learned of the toll it had taken on the family this year.

christ, hardly a capital offence.
It was pretty dumb, honestly. That's sharing dirty laundry with the media.

Nobody cares about anyone's problems.

They made their first offer….the agent made a counter offer.

Shanny balked cause of the presser…

he could be lying but he said he felt that they had already agreed on the contract prior to the end of the season.

Somehow this just comes off as a boomer getting his feeling hurt that someone else beneath him had feelings.

Could be wrong but it sounded like a very emotional decision by shanny, not a calm calculated one.

Meh, none of this really matters.

no doubt he's upset at Dubas.

and maybe he shouldn't have gone out of his way to explain the situation. he could have just said they decided to move on.

selfishly, i'm glad he took pains to point out that it literally had nothing to do with Dubas' "vision" or with a "change in direction" or even Dubas' performance or any of that kind of shit.

agree across the board…..selfishly I’m happy I got to hear it all, play by play…it was surreal. (I am slightly skeptical taking it as gospel, and I’ll be curious what Dubas/his agents taken on it is).

…but I also think he kinda threw Dubas under the bus a bit, in a manner that’s honestly pretty gross, given everything Dubas gave us.

Doobs cracked a bit.

also dunno what it was that he said that pushed shanny. Pouring Gas on break up the core 4 probably wasn’t too endearing. O
Hope so. Shanny must know what even Grapes said the other day - you don't just give up on stars when they're 26.

And the Dubas presser was just the tip of the iceberg. I personally didn't need to really see that to know he was suffering mentally.. You could see it in a lot of his personnel decisions. He lost his way.

Which is sad but you need to be able to keep your cool as a GM, especially of the Leafs.

Yeah, but from his standpoint, after everything Shanny gave Dubas, including support for a new deal, what do you call Dubie having a presser to tell the world that he doesn't know if he wants it?

Note that part where Shanny indicated that he didn't seem to think Dubie should hold any presser, but that Dubie insisted. Seems like it was a ploy on Dubie's part to get the media and fans scared that Dubie would leave, so that the world would get on the Leafs' case about how he must stay (like me and some others were here), thereby paving the way for a big increase in his money ask. Poorly handled, to say the least.

And Shanny earned the right to tell us how it all went down.

if that’s the case…..and more specifically Dubas & his agent did something very out of bounds, negotiations wise with that counter offer? 100% Mea culpa.

still don’t like airing that laundry and basically blaming Kyle publicly for the change tho.

definitely emotion there. Dubas really pissed him off seems like. Seems like he feels betrayed, really.
