The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

definitely emotion there. Dubas really pissed him off seems like. Seems like he feels betrayed, really.
The I took 9 months to decide I want you and not getting an automatic yes put him off... see it regularly in the finance world.

And the Dubas presser was just the tip of the iceberg. I personally didn't need to really see that to know he was suffering mentally.. You could see it in a lot of his personnel decisions. He lost his way.

Which is sad but you need to be able to keep your cool as a GM, especially of the Leafs.

I didn't see any anger. I saw disappointment, almost like a father when his son lets him down.

He gave him all the support, pushed to bring him back, and then had him do this childish shit after an upset loss in the second round.

It's very disappointing, not anything to be mad about.

I want to live in a world where it’s perfectly fine to show the emotion Dubas did, and has zero impact on whether you keep your job or not.

maybe I’m wrong, but I didn’t take it at all as showing a lack of interest in being GM, but as showing respect for his wife and family over just how much of himself he gives to the job of being our GM, at their expense.

I don't know why Dubas talked to the press...he should have talked to his wife...and then spend some time in an Aaron Rodgers style dark cave until he figured out if he wanted the job, and at what price...

i dont even know what to think after that presser. what a roller coaster

this is the right takeaway…..it’s was too insane to have an instant take on, without any reflection.

I think peoples opinions on it will change over time, and probably should given how surreal it was live,

I heard the 4M offer elsewhere (maybe it’s copypasta)

The control issue is important and if true implies there was some interference from above… like I mentioned a few times previously, there’s not many worse feelings than not being allowed to do your job the way you’d like to.

Yes...but also, it's not uncommon for execs with tons of experience and great resumes to have to clear certain major moves with their boss, the board, etc.

Full autonomy for a sports exec is almost a myth.

It's almost like Shanny watched that presser and suddenly thought "goddammit everyone else was right about this punk kid all along" and felt humiliated.

someone brainstorm experienced GM candidates that aren't hot garbage before i off myself, please and thank you.
Never has the word "experienced" scared me more. I just took a quick look at "experienced" GMs available and I'd rather not type out the list. For our own personal safety.

eh....it was literally the only factor he listed when asked what he'd be looking for in a new GM. the only thing.

sure...but I don't think every word should be interpreted as scripture

I thought it was pretty explicit in that presser that he wasn't sure about returning.
