The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I get that was riveting moment to moment……I think when people have time to reflect on what we just witnessed, they’ll have a much different take on it.

He kinda burried Dubas in a pretty shitty way….while basically blaming Dubas for his own firing,

no doubt he's upset at Dubas.

and maybe he shouldn't have gone out of his way to explain the situation. he could have just said they decided to move on.

selfishly, i'm glad he took pains to point out that it literally had nothing to do with Dubas' "vision" or with a "change in direction" or even Dubas' performance or any of that kind of shit.

…and he showed emotion because he said he just learned of the toll it had taken on the family this year.

christ, hardly a capital offence.
No one is blaming him for that. But if a guy says he doesn't really want the job and then goes back to the table to ask for MORE money, the employer has a right to be skeptical and move on.

i think shanny said it was the agent that actually gave him the big increased demand. but not sure that matters - if shanny isn't lying, then a last second bump like that after months of talks, especially when shanny said he felt that they had pretty much already agreed on the general outlines of the contract, is a pretty shitty move.
Also, if you're "not sure" you want to come back at all, and then suddenly you want to come back but for way more money...

The message I'd take from that is that you need more money to want to stay on the job, not that you want the job but would like to try to maximize your pay. If Dubie spent his presser talking about how he is absolutely certain he wants to stay, lock himself in and even back himself into a corner in negotiations, the money bump isn't such a big deal.

But...I hate my life and don't even know if I want to do this, but I will if you shove more dollars into my panties? Bad messaging and amateur negotiation tactics.

Does Tulsky count as “experienced”.

sounded like when Dubas said he wasn’t sure Shany started thinking about other . possibilities and directions and liked it. Grass is always greener…

the venn diagram between "experienced" and "great" is rather narrow

Shanny would be a fool to rule out Tulsky

I don't want to flip burgers for min wage but pay me sufficiently and I'll do it.

I liked everything Shanahan said and fully support him in this decision. The one scary moment is the "I want an experienced GM" comment. I can't think of a single "experienced GM" that is available that I'd want. But someone make me feel better about that...
Experienced = someone who has won before.

Take Deboer's 7 for 7 track record in game 7's for instance.

especially when the only "reassurance" Dubas provided him with was a short email.
