The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Based on this past year, the execution was horrendous.

Those Engvall and Sandin trades, as much as how some laughed about how they were meaningless at the time, probably tell the tale as to what happened here. Did Dubie lose his fucking brain gradually culminating on deadline day, or was there interference? I'm going with loss of fucking brain.

I think his contention would be that the 6/7 ask would ensure the Leafs would balk.

Still not sure I really get agreeing to the 4m framework in the first place.
If he wanted to take time off and find a less pressure situation if there is actually any he would have just walked and instead of playing some weird game and then leaking crap through his media buddies.

What he's doing now just reeks of an entitled back stabbing prick who got pissy because someone dared to evaluate his job performance and made him wait for a contract extendion offer.

Fwiw...and what it's really worth is making Zeke punch air....

The Penguins are now owned by Fenway Group, John Henry's group that owns the Boston Red Sox.

Could definitely see them knowing dick about hockey but seeing Dubas as the hockey version of Theo Epstein.
And not afraid of tampering when you have fuck you money. Billy Beane should have taken his money.

There still hasn't been any pushback at all to the timeline we got in Shanahan's presser right?

Just many many sources talking about how bad it was to work for Shanny/MLSE?

Correct. No one has challenged Shanny's versions of events. They've only expressed surprise that a hockey exec was being that transparent.

I feel comfortable with the conclusion Shanny took based on Dubas’ actions really. I would’ve preferred at the presser to hear someone confidently say yes, this is where I want to be, yes, my heart is still in this, yes, I believe I can fix it. I posted the next day here that I was open to moving on based on what I’d heard as did many of us FIers.

Just make a good hire now.

It was obviously Dubas looking to oust Shanny and losing.
I don't see it that way, I see it as Dubas was sick of interference (not saying it was a lot but enough) and demanded autonomy. Shanny said uh, no. Then Dubas told his wife who is sick of his miserable ass due to Shanny and said fuck no, not another five years like the last five. I'm out.

So now Dubas has to convince her to stay and she either says no amount is worth it or a ridiculous amount. If it's the former then Kyle is willing to stay only for serious bank because there goes his marriage, that's worst case scenario for Kyle because he loves the job. So ya, if you somehow say yes to those high demands then I will roll with it.

I view Kyle as a man between a rock and a hard place and he lubed Shanny up to slide right out.

clearly Dubas was Hand to King Brendan of House Shanahan.

He got too close to the true purpose of the Shanaplan, and had to be banished.

North of the Trump Wall, a blue and white walker awakes...

I see a wide range of things being plausible, with some more likely than others (i.e. shanahan being a lowkey tyrant who dictates to Kyle moves that need to be made or Kyle having full autonomy = unlikely). But ultimately the next moves by shanny, the person he hires, and Kyle if he decides to work will answer a lot of my questions. So imma reserve judgment on everything, sit back and enjoy the circus resulting from bitter folks feeding the media classic quotes such as "this is hunger games" and "this is game of thrones." It's all fun.

I don't believe the wife bullshit part of this story for a second.

If she has an issue, it's because Kyle is stressed or working too much or not available. It'll be that way with the GM gig of any team most likely.

There's no relationship between Dubie wanting more authority and Dubie's family situation. None. Sorry if Dubie is stressed at home and can't manage having a corporate structure that he fits within, but that's life and how it goes.

Imagine if he's entitled to get an extra $2M per and full authority just because he's whining and venting to his wife? The very inkling of any truth to this would be worth firing him, just on that one issue alone, forget about everything else.

I'd love to tell my clients they need to pay me double or more (when I'm making $2M or $3M) because I'm a fucking bitch at home with my wife and kids since the job is stressful. I wonder how they'd react.

"Kyle Dubas has the hardest job in the NHL". - Kent Hughes.

It won't be that way in many US cities, not at all. Also, there's no way Dubas signs anywhere without full control.

I mean I seriously can't believe you compared the stress level of Leafs GM (not the poster) and any other GM job not named Montreal or NYR.

Since when did Kyle Dubas and his one playoff round victory in five years become an omnipotent presence in the NHL?

I loved the guy, but the myth has far outrun the man now. He's fucking nobody if results count for anything.
