His line matching was made worse by his horseshit player evaluation. He felt Marleau and Zaitsev were the teams best defensive players. Fuck off.

Can you imagine constantly having Matthews cutting shifts short to sprint to the bench, or ending up with fewer than 20 minutes of ice time? All to avoid the other team’s defensive players?

I think this is another thing that comes down to ego. Babcock didn’t want his best players to just go out and beat the other team themselves. He had to get his big slice of the credit for his brilliant line matching.
