The Motherfucking 2021 Playoffs Thread

Dubas confirmed it when he did his short interview just prior to Game 2. He explicitiy said Tavares had a concussion, and that they were taking a "conservative approach" with him, the leafs top doctor was heavily supervising JT as he recovered at home.

Also, hes up in the Muskokas, not Toronto, he's been there with his family since the pandemic began last year.

I don't know if that's saying what they want it to say. There seems to be some correlation between winning and having the better SV% goalie, and none for their metrics. That could just be easily saying that SV% > Their Metrics as it could be saying "lol, goalies are pure voodoo that are impossible to predict or understand".

There's also some selection bias involved as teams with horrible goaltending tend to not make the playoffs at all, so we've already pre screened out most teams with horrible goaltending. For example, only 2 teams out of the top 16 in SV% this season failed to make the playoffs (Detroit #14, & LAK #16) . Only St Louis (#21...and bye felicia) and Montreal (#27) made the playoffs with bad goaltending this season. So there's going to be a lot more randomness in goaltending performance when you're putting a ~.918 goalie up against a ~.914 goalie instead of a .918 vs a .905

I'm still kinda fascinated by the fact that Andersen riding the pine, in his contract year no less, has gotten barely a blip from the media.

Love that Campbell has been accepted as our starter thus far.

There were some dummies suggesting leading up to the playoffs either that Andersen should get first crack at starting, or that the Leafs should quickly turn back to Fred if Campbell has a bad game.

There was also plenty of talk about starting Fred in one of the back-to-back games we’re playing tonight or tomorrow.

Aside from that though, tough for even the biggest Fred supporter to raise much of a stink when Campbell’s played two excellent games so far.

Any goaltending controversy that they were clearly dying to create was merk'd when Freddy came back "healthy" and looked terrible, while Jack pulled himself out of a 4-5 game tailspin and went back to being good and dependable again.

The bigger question is and always should have been whether we should go to Freddy or Big Save Dave for the back end of this stupid playoff back to back.

My vote is Rittich. They've both been similarly terrible over the last 1 & 2 year splits, and similarly terrible in the same way (5v5 & PK, no real edge to either). But Andersen has been a tire fire of epic proportion over the last 3 months and Rittich has been good in 2 of his 4 leaf starts, bad in 1 and horrible in another but has kept it to 3 or less in 3 of 4 starts. I'll take that over Freddy 4ndersen right now.

We won't though.

My vote is ride Campbell.
But Hutchinson is my backup based on regular season play this year

If we win tonight I really consider going with Rittich or yeah, Hutch.

The stats for a goalie on the 2nd of back to backs aren't flattering, and Campbell isn't really used to a starters work load like that. It's not like Price or Allen have been markedly better than Rittich or Hutch this season, so that match up in the 2nd of the back to back doesn't scare me much.

He hasn’t been one of our MVP’s

Let’s try again.

You don’t think Jack has been one of our MVP’s? Where would we be without him and with Freddy as our starter?

Mirtle tried to say Fred was mvp halfway thru last year because Sparks sucked so bad.

Imo it doesn't work like that. A goalie can only be mvp if he's performing at an elite level, not just because the alternative sucks.
