The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

those lines sure look like Foligno to 1LW --> Hyman to 3RW --> Thornton to 4LW.

which would leave the only question as to how Nash gets into the lineup.

I'm still not convinced he does to start...

I think it likely comes down to Nash vs. Gally for the final spot. And is Nash even on track to be healthy and in shape for the playoffs? Also, what is Hyman's status? We're assuming we'll have a full roster to pull from... unsure that will actually be the case.

Intrigued to see what Noesen can do anyhow.

I’m kind of surprised that Noesen’s getting a shot. I figured he was just a straight salary dump to make up for the money the Sharks retained on Foligno, rather than a guy we’d actually use.

Agreed though that there’s a few place-holders in this lineup, and Hyman’s likely slotting into #3RW, Foligno into #1LW & Thornton into #4LW.

Who knows about Nash, though. Maybe he draws in for Kerfoot, and then one of Kerfoot or Gally sits out? Or more likely, someone else will get injured between now and then.

Well I think if Keefe wants his very best defensive lineup, at least he, then yeah he most likely goes with:

Foligno-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Nash-Hyman

as his top 3 lines.

And he might be leaning that way already - but if Galy can keep up his recent points surge then he might be able to hold onto his spot still.

Wonder what other Toronto area vets will be dying to come home if we go on a good run here.

This past season alone, in addition to Thornton, Spezza & Simmonds, Corey Perry also wanted to come here.

Think this is pretty much going to be a regular thing during the Matthews/Marner era, particularly if they have playoff success.

IMO Galy > Kerfoot

As a complement to Tavares/Nylander, it's an interesting comp.

Tavares/Nylander xgf

W/Galy: 2.89xgf/60, 1.98xga/60 = 59.4%
W/Kerf: 3.11xgf/60, 1.89xga/60 = 62.3%

So solidly better with Kerf at both ends in terms of xgf.

GF%

W/Galy: 3.25gf/60, 2.01ga/60 = 61.8%
W/Kerf: 2.00gf/60, 1.23ga/60 = 61.9%

Similar overall impact, but wildly different results - in terms of actual goals the line has been far better offensively with Galchenyuk, but just as dramatically better defensively with Kerfoot.

Might want to note that there's a pretty huge advantage in the simpler shot metrics for the Kerfoot combo, which might mean the results are more sustainable:

W/Galy: 50.5cf%, 51.8ff%, 51.7sf%
W/Kerf: 59.0cf%, 58.2ff%, 59.7sf%
