The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

[Shilton] Sheldon Keefe on picking playoff starter: "Fred's making his way back. Jack Campbell has been playing extremely well. I hope to have to make a difficult decision when the time comes. The depth of our goaltending has grown significantly. I look forward to making tough decisions"

I don't think it'll be a tough decision

I've said it before...

Freddie doesn't give up the obvious laughers that it usually takes for casuals to identify bad goaltending and turn on a goalie. He just doesn't make enough saves on real chances. Neither of those are laughers. But one is a 24 yr old AHL rookie who never scored more than 6 goals in any NCAA season beating him from the low slot through the legs and the other guy is another undrafted AHL rookie scoring his first AHL goal, after scoring a total of 32 goals in 4 NCAA seasons.

These are not high skill shooters and they make Freddy look like he has no fucking chance on both.

The guy is done.

He's also clearly mentally fragile.

For a fun comparison...

...remember when Jonathan Bernier’s NHL career looked like it was a smoking ruin, his confidence looked totally gone and we demoted him to the Marlies mid-season?

This is how ‘ole Johnny Berns did:

That’s a lot closer to what it should look like when a veteran NHL-caliber goalie who doesn’t belong in the minors gets some time in the AHL.

eh, Fred gets a pass on his first game back in however long. now, if he shits the bed in the next two...

I get that he's lost the benefit of the doubt overall, but you cannot judge someone exclusively off their first action in months. But hey, Fred's days as an above-average goalie in the show may in fact be done. I'm not fully there yet however.

With the playoffs coming I decided to do my old more thorough team matchup.

Round 1: Habs

Oh, there’s a rather large body of shitty work to judge him on aside from this one half of an AHL game.

His body language, the way he approaches shooters, all looked so familiar.

The thing about Freddy is that often he is the 2nd best goalie on the ice. That is even on nights he is playing well.
