The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

I hope we don't let up on Montreal this week. I really want them to stay in 4th so that they don't creep up into 3rd and maybe Helleybuck stands on his head for us with a healthy Ehlers back etc.

Keep Mont 4th.

Yeah, while I'm not really afraid of facing any team, there's a not-zero chance of getting goalie'd against the Jets, whereas I just don't see that as much of a possibility with any of Price/Allen or Smith.

Plus I just really want to see a Leafs/Habs series. And in a Leafs/Habs & Jets/Oilers playoff bracket, it seems pretty likely that the team waiting for the winner of Toronto/Montreal would be the Oilers, with the way they've had the Jets' number this year.

And not only would that be the best possible second-round matchup for the Leafs, but in what other year are Matthews & co. ever going to have the opportunity to face off against McDavid in the playoffs? In any other season that meeting could only take place in the Cup finals. And when are the Oilers ever going to get that far anytime in the foreseeable future? McDavid would have to have one of the performances of all-time to drag the stinking carcass of his team that deep into the playoffs.

Hellebuyck's recent struggles are making me look at his career numbers with a bit more of a critical eye:

(impressive performances in bold)

15-16: 26gms, .918 (Plyff: ---)
16-17: 56gms, .907 (Plyff: ---)
17-18: 67gms, .924 (Plyff: 17gms, .922)
18-19: 63gms, .913 (Plyff: 6gms, .913)
19-20: 58gms, .922 (Plyff: 4gms, .904)
20-21: 41gms, .912

we've proven we're better than any potential North opponent. it doesn't matter to me which one we face because losing to any of them would be a disappointment for this team. If Campbell can keep his head on straight we're in good shape vs anyone in the league.

Posted for no particular reason:

2021 NHL season:

Jason Spezza: GP 49, G 10, A 18, Pts 28
Josh Anderson: GP 47, G 17, A 7, Pts 24

Rich Man's Chad Kilger.

If you can draft and develop that guy, get his ELC and a few cheap years in, fine. He's big, fast, physical and is pretty dangerous off of the rush. But he's a pretty low IQ player (the amount of running around chasing hits he does as the puck is going the other way...jfc), but if you're paying him, you probably fucked up.

yeah in my preseason predictions I had the Jets out of the playoffs cause I thought Helle would come back to earth, and with the Jets D, the rest would take care of itself. 1/2?

In other news

Taylor Hall: 11 GP, 5G , 5A in 15:42 of ice. 67% CF & 67% xGF

I’m not even going to rehash the Hall vs Foligno debate, because I’ve made clear what my preference was, and I’ve also been fine with how Foligno’s fit in on this team.

But can you even imagine if Dubas had gone all-in at the deadline and added Hall in addition to Foligno?

I was curious how many of Hall's assists are primary assists, considering all three of Foligno's are secondary assists.

The answer is three out of five. So, eight primary points (5 goals, 3 assists) in 11 games for Hall.

I'm not upset, just sad. And I find Bennett being a superstar absolutely hilarious. The Hall thing makes me sad because my hunch tells me they should have gotten him. But Kyle is smarter than all of us so I'm going to hold off on rushing to any judgment.

you want to be upset look at what that bust bennett is doing.

Maybe the Craig Buttons of the world were right all along?

I guess we have no choice now but to pay a huge haul in the off-season to acquire Lawson Crouse...

nope.

6 primary points in 11gms for Hall.

2 primary points in 4gms for Nick.

(or .5 per game for nick and .55 for Hall as i posted above).
