Well clearly. Because they don't seem to have other viable options.

If they did, waivers isn't an issue. Only one guy out of dozens that was placed on waivers was even claimed.

Zbad just didn't earn a spot.
 
yes. I don't see why waivers makes Da Costa a better player than Zbad. It was the on ice play that made that decision.
 
It's simple. The Sens need to get the roster down to a certain number by the beginning of the season.

Zbad is better than both Pageau and Da Costa, but can be sent down to AHL without clearing waivers. The Sens have taken that opportunity and allowed Pageau and Da Costa to battle for a position.

Once one has established themselves, then the other will be sent down (if they clear waivers) and Zbad will be back with the big club.
 
Actually the Sens only have a 22 man roster. So they didn't have to send Da Costa down or put anyone on waivers.

He just flat out beat Zbad for a job. And they are too cheap to carry 23 guys.

They are carrying 23. Lazar is rumored to be staying up for a few games because he was unable to play in many pre-season games due to a small injury.

I'm not resting my hat on anything really. I just find it weird that so many people are saying this and that the Sens would ice a lesser roster to start the year to avoid losing a lesser player on waivers, if it's true.

Guess the rumors were untrue about Lazar.

That still doesn't change anything - unless you think the Sens want guys to battle for a spot while Zbanejad sits in the press box.

It's simple. Pageau and Da Costa are competing from a spot. The loser will be sent down and Zbad will be back in his rightful spot. They have the luxury of sending Zbad down for a short period of time.

You guys sure are Sens experts - an amazing feat from watching all of two pre-season games.
