The New Division

So you're pretty content with Kessel being rated the 20th best forward, Phaneuf the 17th dest dman and Reimer as the 17th best goalie?

The only one I have a real problem with is Phaneuf.

Given that Kessel's a winger and not a center, I'd have a hard time putting him much higher on that list. Kessel is probably a top-5 winger, but IMO that only makes him a top-20 forward. The only guys ranked ahead of him that really don't ring true at all are Couture and Parise, IMO. I'd have him ahead of Hossa too but it's close enough not to matter too much. There's also guys behind him like Staal, Spezza, Hall who I might even rank ahead of him, so that balances out too. I might put him closer to 15 than 20, but nothing too crazy there.

Reimer gets deservedly dinged for his lack of track record and down year. Even though he's finished top-10 twice in his first 3yrs, his 2yr, 3yrand career stats both justify a middling ranking like that for now. The only guy who is way out of place on that list IMO is Fasth.

Phaneuf is legitimately too low, though.....but even then we're talking about 5-10 spots only. His recent track record doesn't quite justify a top-5 ranking, though it definitely should put him round about 10th or so, give or take a few spots.

So you're pretty content with Kessel being rated the 20th best forward, Phaneuf the 17th dest dman and Reimer as the 17th best goalie?

They are all within a debatable range. Whether I think Phaneuf should be 9th or 17th, or Kessel 13th instead of 20th, at least we're in the same stratosphere.

I think Lupul is too low, but I get that he gets dinged because of all the injuries.

Reimer gets deservedly dinged for his lack of track record and down year. Even though he's finished top-10 twice in his first 3yrs, his 2yr, 3yrand career stats both justify a middling ranking like that for now. The only guy who is way out of place on that list IMO is Fasth.

Bobrovsky and Price are way too high and Holtby is way too low. Holtby will end up the starting goalie in Sochi.

I love how you guys always wait extra long to start the game day thread when you play Ottawa.

It really proves how little the games mean to you.

The best is that Dallas Eakins was only ranked 1 spot below Carlyle even though he hasn't coached a single shift at the NHL level.

Bylsma top 5... he has won 1 cup in 5 years with a absolutly stacked roster as well as starting the flower ahead of Vokoun. Decent coach but not a top 5 coach IMO
