The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Trading Knies for a prospect D that might not play at all this year and also may not make an an impact for years, if ever, would be demented.

If you’re going to do that, your next move may as well be asking Auston for the list of teams he’d waive his NMC for and trading him too.

RE: Friedman comment

Pretty much every team is going all in right now. They’re not worried who might be available at #24 next season

Btw, the Habs have being cashing in first rounders at this time of the year for three seasons (to grab Dach, Newhook, Dobson, and almost got Knies at deadline)

The rest of the league said “hmmm… why not”

Yeah...not straight up. The idea here would be to get a player that analytically replaces Knies in the lineup but doesn't have the sexy sexy value our handsome boy brings...and get Reid or Carels on top.

How many of those above teams were playoff teams? Makes a difference on how much patience the coach has to break in a rookie D.

Since 2010, 26 19 year old dmen have played at least 40 games.

Lots of top 5-10 picks on that list with good seasons.
Saw someone bring out the stats (I can't remember who, maybe jfresh) saying that if a d isn't a solid regular by like 20 or 21, he's probably not gonna be an impact guy. It's a bit of a myth that elite d take much longer than forwards. I think if Reid is that good, he'll make significant positive contributions in 27-28.

Granted, that's a major if. He may also suck. That's the risk!

As Chayka just said 3 minutes ago, "there's liquidity in the market right now so we're talking about many different scenarios to see what we can do to take advantage, we have to explore everything."

He sounds like ch1

He’s doing his job.

Trying to max out his top chip is the opposite LOF move (try to trade 3 quarters for a twoonie)

And just to be clear, if you get 4 and decide Reid's your guy and think it's best for his development to have another year, let him have the year.

Just gotta have a plan outside of that to replace Knies' production right away.
