Nice dominant win by the Cowboys today.
As stated in the first post of this thread, the Browns defense is atrocious. Their secondary is just awful.. I mean, when you give up a pick FOR Travis Daniels it says a lot. With that said the cowboys are a very good football club, but I wouldn't gauge the whole season based on the Browns defense.
On another note, i just watched the Fins/Jets game again.. And what I am encouraged with is the Dolphins play in the 4th quarter.. In last season's opener the team was totally worn out in the 3rd quarter nevermind later in the 4th), and got manhandled physically at the point of attack in 4th quarters.
The opposite happened yesterday.. The Jets had only 27 yards in the 4th quarter to Miami's 140 yards... I saw the Miami team making numerous key plays on defense in the 4th, and the offensive line really came together giving Pennington plenty of time (despite the Jets bringing extra people).. They were just a jump ball with 5 seconds left from winning the game.
I also have absolutely no idea why Miami didn't run more toss sweeps. This was extremely effective in preseason.. Miami has two guards who are very athletic.. Smiley is excellent at pulling, and so is Donald Thomas (Thomas had the 2nd fastest time in the 40 at the combine for all linemen, and he had the fastest 10 second split of any lineman in the draft).
when they pulled in preseason on sweeps off deep pitches, they were absolutely dominant with plenty of long runs. We didn't see that yesterday.. It was certainly called for when the Jets stacked the line, often overloading one side.. What Miami should have done is pull a lineman from the overloaded side and pulling to the weak side of the defense.. Enabling 4 O-lineman blocking 3 or 4 guys on the opposite end.
There is nothing wrong with audibles in that instance.
And after doing that a few times, a few fake pitches and passes to the flat (on the opposite side) would have been very effective I thought. Keeping the Jets defense honest.
