The Search for the New GM Thread

And if his marriage is indeed on the rocks due to his job? What then?

Honest question?
the only thing that doesn't really add up is the last minute exorbitant counter offer.

if your marriage was crumbling, walk away to save the marriage, don't try to get paaaiiid.

but otherwise, I'd have no issue if he stepped back for family reasons. but apparently that's not exactly what happened here...

I mean the narrative cast by Shanny, if accurate, does not paint the most flattering picture for the doobie man. And I'm a big doobie man fan overall, recent wobbles notwithstanding.

I mean all the discussion and intrigue is cause we don't know exactly what went on and are all curious as hell cause either Dubas gave up on his plan and started doubting himself or got pressure from above or some other option we haven't considered.
People are only saying that he deviated from his plan because they don’t like some of the moves he made.

but at the end of the day the plan was ultimately build around his stars, and it seems be a strong possession team that generates high quality chances…
And the (public) analytics spells that out.

the moves he made at this most recent deadline do not really correspond at all with his grand vision of many years ago though.

you yourself even say "it seems be". he was on record about the kind of team he wanted to build when he was hired and at some point something knocked him off that path. whether it was Shanny or self doubt or something different I think is fair to debate but I disagree that he stuck with the vision and plan he initially outlined.

I mean, he did do Bogosian, Boosh, then Schenn. So maybe he was actually pretty consistent there.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to decide you should quit because your marriage is in trouble, and yet turn around and ask for 6 million because you want to stay.

Wifey: "I am leaving you at 4 million, but for 6..... let's chat!"

he had every right to walk away for personal reasons. But he didn’t.
I feel like we're still missing one or two key pieces of info. But I agree with your statement here.

Just trying to make sense of what has been described and... it doesn't make sense to me. So I dunno. But I agree if family was the issue, you don't make that weird highball counter...

“Deviating from his plan” this season comes down to trading a third liner with 0 career playoff goals who was a pending ufa

years 3, 4, and 5. and consistent in having a plug on the back end, but don't see how that lines up with the vision he described when he started. and again, consistent with that being a course modification midway through. ultimately we don't know, hence the curiosity and discussion.

The trades at the deadline were to achieve one goal, to beat Tampa.

and trading Sandin for... nothing.

and acquiring a plugger for the backend to displace our homegrown talent (this did work out well, but I hated the move at the time and philosophically do not see how this is a fit at all).

and abandoning speed & skill >>>

It’s not like you can just will every player you want on to your roster.

a big part of the reason why they’ve relied on plugs the past few years is because they traded a boat load of picks.

And going from an organization that believes in puck possession, aggressive and anti dump and chase to a gritty slow grizzled vet passive dump and chase team. This obviously was not Kyle's original vision. Don't be obtuse.

Well the sandin trade was strange

not sure how they abandoned skill by adding ROR or speed by adding Lafferty.

But they weren’t a dump and chase team. They emphasized trying to score more goals around the net. Based on analytics.

Well at some point they emphasized more cycling / less rush chances. We know that. And we know why.
Not sure I take Jack Han and cam Charon at their word on everything here n

we all watched the playoffs and consistently came away with the idea that we weren't hard enough to play against, really. is it possible that the failure pushed a course modification as well?
