they easiest fix would be to get a Kerfoot in a trade that’s actually a good center and not a winger that has played center.

I have them trading Muzzin for futures but if they can find a dance partner for a 2c that might be preferable (or using the muzzin futures for the 2c). Sign Gio cheap for third pair insurance and let the kids play; simply trade for a top four d at the deadline again if they can't handle it.

JT, with his age and skating, is sort of a ticking time bomb when it comes to playing center in the show. If he is still capable of doing it next year, he may not be the year after that. I thought this year in particular he really struggled in stretches at driving offence at evens. So if I'm dubas I look to shore up center depth this summer if something is available. And I think now is the time where you can offload a d like Muzzin to help beef up the package for said player. I prefer dubas and his team of nerds target someone specifically who is youngish and with term than overpaying for a UFA.

Dumping Mrazek (would need to include draft capital) and trading Muzzin and Kerfoot for futures would clear up a lot. They can create the space. The better question is whether trochek is the best use of it.

Fair enough, but I've gone over the list of FA's pretty extensively and there doesn't look to be any random value out there this summer unless a guy like Athanasiou falls completely through the cracks.

This seems like an okay summer for weirdo analytic darling defenders (Aho, Pysyk, Niku, etc). Not so much for help up front. That's either going to require trades or spending.
