Yeah, those are the two maybe weirdo value plays at forward but I'd be surprised if either were "cheap". Though Colorado has some hard choices to make and they may decide to replace Kadri with Newhook now rather than later, which would diminish the market for him.
Taking a mulligan on that trade at the right price isn't a bad idea.

Bunch of that money goes to Lilly, Sandin, Rielly, and Jack. But leftover leaves enough for another good forward to make it a core 5. That’s the play.

Have to find out a lot more about Raz next year. If he's just another shittier Rielly (possession driver, subpar defender) I'm not sure I see the fit longterm to have one of those players on each of your top two pairs. I want to see major improvements in tough minutes out of him defensively before I get too horned up about his future in Toronto. And unfortunately the best way to find out is to trade Muzz. We won't learn anything new if he's on the third pair again.

Muzz is leaving in two years anyway. Get a great deal for him now and replace him with Gio for a fraction of the cost and negligible drop in results if any drop at all.

IMO, Keefe should be gone. Don't matter that they had such a great season, any coach could milk this team to the playoffs.
Engval, milky etc were horrible.
Also, JT had to work most of the year with willy. He gets a muggins for that.
No one seems to have very good seasons playing with willy, (Matthews didn't)... He gets his points but doesn't make those around him any better. Maybe trade him for futures and sign Forsberg ...

actually it does matter that they had a great season. Keefe is great and is not the problem.

The Lyubushkin, Simmonds and Clifford decisions were pretty unforgivable with so much on the line, but I’m more for Dubas removing trash from the roster than firing Keefe for using it.

OK, This Left/Right D situation can't continue and needs to be fixed. We always have shitty guys with Rielly aside from Brodie. Bush on the 1st pairing..Jesus. And please have some balls, stop being nice and move out Muzzin. We need the cap and he'll continue to regress. 4 milion in $$$ next 2 seasons. Should be doable. He'll agree to to the move.

Yeah, I agree with Presto on Sandin. We either need to see signs of him being a complete top 4 type or we should consider him trade bait for our next "Muzzin". We can't have a "Rielly" on both top pairings. Gio is a good stop gap that allows us time to figure that out without throwing Sandin into the deep end immediately.

Robertson is ready for an extended shot in the top 9 and I'd like to see some of the kids (steeves , Douglas, etc) given real shots to win 4th line job.
Every time we think tampa is fucked and will have no depth they pull a Ross Colton, Cernak,
gourde, etc out of their ass by looking inside the organization first for a solution.

I can see a scenario where JT waives.... I tend to view NMCs not as "you will never be able to trade me" but as "only I can decide when and where I get traded (if ever)"
I'm sure when JT signed it was to play happily ever after for a team bringing a long awaited cup home....but who knows how he feels 4 (mostly disappointing) years later?

Maybe it's just because the Muskoka Five sticks out in my mind, but it can at times be surprisingly hard to get people to waive to leave Toronto.

The big problem with the nmc is at the very worst it limits the options. You likely won’t maximize return. We got nothing for Phil and had to eat salary.
Unless there is a clear cup favourite out there in a given year (scenario that is looking increasingly unlikely), the Leafs will keep being a contender on paper. He won't want to leave.

He's got two little kids and clearly chose to raise them in Toronto. I don't think he's gonna agree to move temporarily for 3 years. Have to assume they're stuck with him so you've gotta maximize him as much as possible. Aka get another center and throw him on the wing.
