I'm a natural cuddler, okay.

I was just listening to Biron on Overdrive just now and he was ripping into the Leafs goaltending pretty hard which... I dunno, fair I guess, our goaltending situation is much less *certain* than other teams, I'd say.

But he said he doesn't look at save percentage at all, he just looks at Goals Saved Above Expected and then claimed Campbell as 13th in that category and Murray 50 something-th.

Is that actually accurate? I seem to recall Jack was fairly low in that category.

yeah pretty sure Jack was near the bottom in GSAA last year. Murray was higher. he's probably confused himself which stat he is using.

Of 68 goalies with 500+fa last year:

GsAx

12. Forsberg +11.46
21. Murray +3.78
48. Kallgren -7.49
49. Gustavsson -7.60
51. Campbell -8.18
54. Samsonov -11.10
59. Mrazek -12.84

gsaa

11. Forsberg +13.61
16. Campbell +7.58
34. Murray +0.81
48. Kallgren -6.80
54. Gustavsson -7.95
57. Mrazek -8.87
64. Samsonov -12.86

dfsv%

11. Forsberg +5.9
17. Murray +4.2
43. Campbell -4.4
51. Samsonov -7.0
56. Gustavsson -9.3
62. Kallgren -14.1
66. Mrazek -18.5

Maybe he was looking at goals saved above average but that's a wildly different stat than goals saved above expected. GSAA is just how their straight GAA and SV% compare to league average - i.e. it's team dependant.

Also if I turn those into rate states just for the four major goalies:

GSAx/60

Forsberg +.27
Murray +.19
Campbell -.18
Samsonov -.28
Mrazek -.74

gsaa/60

Forsberg +.32
Campbell +.16
Murray +.04
Samsonov -.33
Mrazek -.51

Thanks for doing the leg work on that one, appreciated. Yeah, he was definitely talking about GSAA then because those are the rankings he stated.

I was pretty sure he said GSAx but perhaps I just misheard.

Jack was 40th in natty GSAA stat at 5's, 13th overall because PK.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that he's not what made our PK really good last year though.

Regular old SV% 5V5

24. Forsberg .921
30. Murray .919
39. Campbell .916
58. Samsonov .903
64. Mrazek .891
