Create a Core 5 (TM) by adding a guy, convert old/slow asset in Muzzin to young/fast players, add Lilly and Sandin full time and boost mobility and transition from the D by like 50%, no more useless shitstains like Babushkie/Simmonds/Clifford, have a fourth line that can skate and play (maybe just use it as your kid development line with the likes of Robertson/Holmberg/Knies).

It's not that hard. This team is right fucking there. The frustration is it's been right fucking there for years.

I don't see any candidates that are going to make a difference on a contender, but I would love to be surprised. The less gambling at the UFA dumpster we have to do the better.
 
As much as I hold Dubie in high regard, he has to be smarter about what he gives Keefe now that we've seen what he does.

You can't have unskilled slugs on the roster. Keefe is like everyone we had before him in that regard because he fucking loves them for their physicality, consequences be damned. Don't give him a Babushkin, and he can't use him. And if you give him one and he's sitting Lilly for him, then take him away.

Lilly, Sandin, Robertson all have to be regulars next year. If Knies is ready, him too. Use the 4th line as a training ground for fast skilled guys to learn to play the defensive side of the game. That way, you don't even need any bargain binners for that. And instead of getting 5 bargain binners, use the money to get one very good top 6er to add to the ranks.
 
For the life of me I still don't understand the 2 years to Simmonds and Clifford. The only explanation was having them mentor guys on the Marlies. Them playing on this NHL club is unfathomable. I don't understand how he ever reached that conclusion unless it was forced on him by Shanny or something. They were the most anti-Dubsian moves of his tenure.

clifford is meaningless - that contract is made specifically to cost nothing against the cap while he's on the marlies.

That's my point. He and Simmonds play on the Leafs. And they're signed for 1-2 more years.

They can't be allowed within 5 miles of the ACC next year. Yes, I still call it that.
