TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Give Spezza Malhotra's job.. and the PP.

Put together a fourth line of Kampf, Engvall and Blackwell and look to create a third line that can score some more.
Use the money saved from no Mikheyev, No Kerfoot, Muzzin out (just because he's slowing down) No Kase, No Holl, No Mrazek,
Give Robertson a chance somewhere...
See what Knies looks like in the preseason.

kind of...

it is a historic loser, zeke.

no team has ever lost like this in any sport.

fact.

Bigger losers than even the Marleau/Thornton Sharks or the Alfie-era Sens, who used to be the quintessential elite regular season teams who choke in the playoffs.

At least those teams were capable of winning a playoff round.

That's the thing. i use to say winning a first round is not a big deal (It's not), but not beating anyone after 6 years is tough. That's 6 years we could have taken deep runs. And they keep finding ways to lose in 7. We've missed a lot of chances.

Ideally you only want him playing second pairing for short stints. I am not comfortable slotting him in as a full time 2LD.

I dont know what the play is on that side to be honest. Im torn on moving Muzz (likely the smart play) , moving Raz in a package for an upgrade elsewhere or the nuclear option and shipping Rielly out for more stability on the top pair
I dunno, the more I think about it, the more I think Raz is the odd man out.

We simply don't have anyone who can handle the toughs on the left side other than Muzz.

Rielly cannot. 39 yo Gio cannot. And stringbean Sandin likely cannot either.

Yeah I get the age/salary argument but given his playoffs bounceback trading Muzz could be a huge mistake. Depending on the return of course.
the biggest problem for me is as soon as we trade Muzz, we're immediately looking for his replacement. we don't have any other top-4 LHD who can handle the toughs.

Mentioned that he wants some ELC guys contributing next year. He even listed zeke's boy Douglas as one of the names that may challenge.

I like him. Big and mean seem to be able to skate. be nice to see them develop into a serviceable 4th line centre

yeah i think i probably stand pat on defense. let Boosh go and sign Gio for spezza contract. You still have 7 guys with at least borderline top-4 talent which sounds like a lot but you always seem to need more than that.

At forward its more interesting. I would love to see all of Robertson Anderson Holmberg Steeves Abbruzzese Douglas battling for 4th line spots all year.

The biggest problem though is that keeping Muzz isn't remotely a guarantee that this problem is sorted either.

It wasn't this year, for example.

Circling back to that Campbell opening offer rumour - starting bid at $2.75 sure sounds to me like settling at Mrazek's $3.8 as a mid point, given i don't see how Campbell's camp can ask for more than $5m even as an opening bid.
