So the "do nothing" approach this summer would be to just re-up the RFAs on bridge deals (engvall kase sandin lilly), and then fill the 4th line with sub-mil guys like any of the kids, clifford, simmonds, cheapo FA.

This would also have us sitting a $2+ mil dman every night which we probably don't want to do, so trading Holl makes sense (as long as Mo/Ras can play the right side).

That would leave us $4.4m to replace Campbell and Mikheyev, though that would be rammed up against the cap with a bare bones 20 man roster (not really a worry for pridham though imo).

Moving Mrazek is obviously the big key to the offseason. That gets us up over $8m in capspace to address both goalie slots and maybe a mikky replacement if we want......though replacing Mikky internally would be fine by me. Moving Kerfoot gets us up over $11m in space but then we definitely want to spend some of that on forward(s).

Thing is moving Mrazek is not gonna be painless i don't think.

Will a buyout make more sense than packaging Mrazek with a legit asset or taking on additional salary in a trade? Or does it make more sense than just keeping him and hoping he becomes a decent goalie again? AAVs of 1.033 year 1, 833k year 2, 1.433 years 3 and 4. They have a 13 day window to do it starting July 1st.

It's a fairly light penalty in the first 2 years. Final 2 years may hurt but cap should be up by then anyway. Not ideal and probably a last resort, but it's one of many options I guess.

Not terrible but I hate buyouts so much. Just got Kessel off the cap now.

I’d rather trade some mid prospect with him, or just hope Dubie finds some hockey trade. Maybe some team has an underperforming forward that we could get going.

are you sure about those caphits?

that is much better than i would have thought.

If anything it should bring the cost of trading him down. Teams can't really demand too much (as they usually do to stick it to the nerd) when the Leafs have this option in their backpocket.

yeah that's not an awful backup option if they can't move him in a reasonable move. I would still hate to do it though - but like you said that would at least lessen the bargaining position of the other teams.
