When are you going to go for it? When your #1 C is 37?

You got elite goaltending last year, you have a #1 C and a Norris winner on the blueline. Now is the time to go for it.
 
Don't listen to the ownership nonsense.

If the Sens used their available cap space on a top 6 winger and a #2 dman -- they could compete for the cup now.

But instead, they're going to waste Spezza's and Anderson's best years.

"Flaming" and "On fire" are two very different things.
 
Spezza and Anderson might not even re-sign. With Melnyk saying they can either keep their guys or add guys, that team is going to be in serious trouble when the cap hits 80 mil or so. Too bad too, they were looking good despite Karlsson claiming 100% despite his ankle not connecting.

We should blow our cap space in August to go for a Cup next June?

Why wouldn't we see where our team is at and make the appropriate moves at the appropriate time?

Maybe we can get Alfie for a 7th at the deadline.

Lets say you traded for Bouwmeester and re-signed Alfie with that available money.

You don't think that puts you in a position to compete right now?

Spending to the cap max, increases your chances of winning.

The time to win is while you have your #1 C somewhat healthy. Not when he's an older, more broken down player. You have nobody in the system that can replace Spezza.

I read the general forums and there are ALWAYS Leafs arguments there. Splendid one about everyone dismissvely ignoring Sundin's greatness there right now. Trent in full anti-Zeke. Sensfan insecurity vis a vis the Leafs is universal, sadly.

Also, you are deathly afraid about the Senators' immediate future. They have been a horrid road team and have never made he playoffs without Alfredsson.
They start with a lengthy road trip which will test their "leadership". It isn't too late to just join us as Leafs fans bud. Always room on the bandwagon.

With the Leafs improving by the minute and likely to overtake the Atlantic and with the Senators teetering on financial oblivion while the Habs reel, signing plugs such as Parros, it's only a matter of time before you, corky and Sensi convert to Leafdom. I relish the thought. Absolutely relish.

Ryder disappeared when it counted most as he always does. Briere is the opposite.

In any event, Desharnais is likely to be better, Price probably better, Max will improve, Briere, forwards and goal probably fine. Galchenyuk and Gallagher will be even better after a year of NHL experience.

Our issue is the back end until Emelin is back. We have the Norris winner, and Markov on wonky knees. After that, it is ugh.
 
Alfredsson Explains UFA Move

Alfie:"When I did my last contract for four years ending in the (2012-13) season, I was asked to help the team manage the salary cap by adding on a extra year to my contract," he said in an opening statement. "I agreed. Each side fully expected I would retire and not play the 2012-13 season."

Murray:"I can say this: I'm disappointed," Murray told The Sun after hearing what was said at the news conference. "It seems Alfie isn't totally informed of what went on. That had to do with J.P. - didn't tell me the truth during the week. He kept saying 'I can't get in touch with Alfie. I will get back to you with a number.'

"He never got back to me. I never heard back from him after the phone call on Tuesday (July 2). Alfie called me himself on Thursday night to tell me that he was leaving. I said to J.P. during the earlier conversations I can't pay you $7 million. That's what they asked for for the year.

"I offered $4.5 million. I said, 'Both of us hopefully are flexible and we will talk.' (Barry) said he would get back to me. I just took for granted that would happen and it never happened. I never heard back. I have not J.P. since the $7 milliion (demand in New York) Saturday meeting we had. It was $12 million for two years and $7 million for one. That's disappointing."

Barry:"The fact is this was a negotiation concerning impending free agency. We made multiple offers and invited them to negotiate. They provided a number on the weekend prior to July 5 and said this is all they can do due to internal budget restrictions. It wasn't a market offer in our estimation. They wanted Daniel to take a below market deal again after he had done the same several times previously and we didn't feel that was appropriate."

Daniel and I spoke every day during the process at length. Essentially, the Senators wanted us to present lower offers to them and that is not how the process works. When a player has impending free agency and the Club wants to keep that player, they need to present their best offer and not ask the player to negotiate against himself. The interview window opened after we couldn't bridge the gap over the weekend and a new opportunity and a new challenge came along. By that time it was simply too late. I won't make any further comments. It's time to move on."

2. You won't be doing any of those things with Patrick Lalime 2.0 in net.
