2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Geez ... I didn't realize that Bochenski hung on for 8 freaking years in the KHL. I mostly remember him from being on a couple of fairly stacked UND teams that bombed out in the NCAAs. That takes some real determination.

The US/Canada border closure into July. The current order runs through June 22 and it’s expected to be extended for another month. The Canadian government already cleared NHL players as essential workers but I haven’t seen the same from the US government.

The Calgary Flames have been planning to open their training camp in a yet to be named U.S. city as they see the logistics right now with the two week quarantine for players entering into Canada as a problem. They think it might easier to pick a U.S. spot to avoid the quarantine once the full team is all together.

The league and NHLPA agreed that training camp/Phase 3 can begin on July 10, “provided that medical and safety conditions allow and the parties have reached an overall agreement on returning to play”

Congrats to Kevyn Adams, the new GM of the Buffalo Sabres. Botterill fired.
My condolences to Kevyn, his family and those who care about him ... because there's an approximately 0.00% chance that any joy will be had being the public face of the Pegula family in Buffalo.

Bummer because I like Kevyn Adams but I cannot wish any success for the Sabres in general. Its not going to be easy to clean up the mess that Botterill made. 7 years and $62 million in actual salary still owed to Jeff Skinner and a full NMC. Sorry Kevyn!

You know, the more I replay the Skinner trade and draft picks, bag of pucks and warm mass of protoplasm that came back in return, increasingly that was a good move. Wow! That's one albatross of a contract for any organization.

I was fine with the trade the day it happened. I was kinda shocked at how little the Canes got in return, but I always saw it as a move to show the players that the days of a culture of losing are done. Plus, he was going to paid too much by someone. Better that another team get saddled with that boat anchor of a contract.

This. I'd have been happier with a better package of draft picks and not getting stuck with Cliff Pu, but that's mostly because Pu is so obviously not a legit prospect. But if the sum of all that had been two 2nd round picks or a single 1st round pick, then I wouldn't have any issues at all. It was time to let Jeff loose in the world for all kinds of reasons.
