So on the subject of Peacock...I decided to make my son happy who just happens to enjoy the WWE and especially the PPV events like Wrestlemania, so I took the plunge on a very cheap four month Peacock intro subscription. I was pretty shocked to learn that Peacock still has not found a way to figure out the rights fees and arrangements with companies like Samsung that happen to make 1/4 of all Smart TV's in this country and Amazon who happens to sell the ever popular Fire Sticks and Fire Cubes. So Samsung has no Peacock app to stream the service on my Smart TV's...the Amazon Firesticks do not yet offer a Peacock app to stream using that device...so lots of bugs to work out before Peacock becomes a mainstream option as a platform for NHL hockey between now and then.
I have the same issue with Peacock, but for $40 I put a Chromecast on my big-ass Samsung and now I just cast their content from my iPad.

Unfortunately, I now have to buy a Fire stick, too, because we can't take advantage of the one-year of free of Apple TV+ my wife got with the purchase of her new iPad because my Samsung is a 2017 model--which is one year before Samsung started supporting Apple's Airplay.

Ah, I think I have a Chromecast in a drawer somewhere, never found a reason to put that in regular use, but that may be easier than what I'm doing

I signed up for Apple TV so my wife could watch “The Morning Show” and I could watch “Ted Lasso”. It’s $4.99 per month but I’ve gotten a $4.99 per month credit for several months now. You can also get AppleTV on Roku, so if it’s cheaper than a Fire Stick, that’s an option.

Love Ted Lasso 😂

"How do you take your tea?"

“Well, normally right back to the counter because there's been a terrible mistake." 🤣

We had an older Samsung that had the same problem with limited apps. I got to where I referred to it as a "dumb TV". That being said, we replaced it recently with a new one (what does that say about my intelligence that we got the same brand) and it has far more apps on it, including Peacock. Haven't looked into the challenge of adding apps, which was the issue with the old one. They just didn't.

That being said, we're not letting go of the Roku. Cheap, one-time investment, with proven adaptability to new streaming services. And most of all... PORTABLE.

Some details on the ESPN deal and what comes next. I hadn’t seen the total package price, but it’s $2.8 billion over 7 years, which is double what the league was getting from NBC. When the current ESPN streaming rights are factored in, the current total is $340 million per year. Add in the “B” partner and the total for the new packages could be in the $600-620 million range per year, a huge increase but less than the $750 million per year that sources said Bettman was looking for pre-pandemic.

Someone mentioned the conflicts between the NHL and college football and that comes into focus with the Winter Classic. That was a MBC creation and countered the all day ABC/ESPN bowl game orgy. The Winter Classic will likely be broadcast by the “B” partner, unless ESPN shuffles a bowl game off to ESPN2 or ESPNU.

While the money is increasing, this won’t have an impact on the salary cap, at least not in the near term. It might reduce escrow payments in a few years, but until the league can fill all the arenas, hockey related revenue is going to lag.

Yup. I got one of the last generation of "dumb TVs" and decided to go with a Roku for streaming on the big screen. Being able to unplug the thing, grab the remote and take it with us when we travel is REALLY nice for somebody who hates watching entertainment or sporting events on his laptop.

The cheapest versions of the Roku now aren’t as portable as the Roku Stick. It needs an external power source, which can be the USB jack on a TV or receiver. It also comes with a plug adapter if necessary.

From what I’ve been told Sony is pretty much getting out of the app business and thus not updating them. Uggh.
Likely Roku before long

Blues sign Jordan Binnington to a 6 year/$36 million extension. Salaries are $4/6/7.5/7.5/6.5/4.5. He has a full NTC for the first 3 years and a modified NTC for the last 3 years.

Seems like a Cam Ward type situation. Win Cup as a rookie goalie, get paid like a high end goalie even though you are really just an average NHL goalie.

I also have a 2017 Samsung in one of my main living areas and it sure would be easier to just open the app! My bonus room has an Xbox One so the Peacock app is available on that platform which at least takes care of one of the TVs for Peacock!

Yeah, except Ward had the numbers in junior and the minors to back up the expectations. Binnington was a middling to decent prospect at best. Dude caught lightning in a bottle and made it pay off in the biggest possible way.
