TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

The nerd will decide. My money is on him refusing to turn down the prospects of rolling out Muzzin-Brodie over an entire season.

You, and most people I read out there, think he's horrible, broken and will be unplayable next year. Yet you think that they'd get a lot in return for him. Hard to have it both ways really. I'm buying the dip on him and believe his actual value is way higher than his perceived value. For that reason, I lean towards holding and reevaluate next offseason when he's got just 1 year left, a modified NTC and is easier to digest for other teams.

If they trade him and get a lot in return then I can see and understand why they'd do that too. But it's not because they think their d will be improved or that he's horrible and unplayable; you don't suddenly think that after giving him 1/2 minutes against Tampa for a series.
I don't think he's horrible and unplayable. I think he definitely was in the regular season, when he wasn't injured. But, considering he showed he's not completely toast in the playoffs, he probably comes back and fares decently. I just don't think it's something you can bank on, and if there are teams out there willing to pay an arm and a leg for a guy you and Zeke are saying IS a top pair dman - like without qualification because age and health and recent seasons don't register - then we should happily accept the overpay and fall back on our depth, which fortunately includes two blue chip dmen we were all so excited about.

Sure if they pay market value for a top pair shutdown dman then you for sure consider it if you have something else lined up. But if he wasn't a leaf and he was available for basically a cap dump I'd probably fully expect Dubas to be first in line to trade for him. Then again, I wonder if his reputation is shot because he plays d in Toronto. Sort of a Beaucheminny situation here I think. Any other market would be jizzing over his performance in the playoffs and his tenure with the Leafs.

It's not about him being broken and unplayable, it'd be about him making 5.6 on the cap and turning 34 next season.

I don't think Dubie would be clamoring to grab a 33 year old, pretty immobile dman coming off a very bad, injury-plagued season and taking up almost $6M. He literally just resigned Gio so he could get rid of that guy.

No he wouldn't want that guy. But he'd love to snag a guy that helped shut down Tampa's fire power at evens and has been one of the best matchup dman in the NHL for years. If the cost is basically nothing, yeah Kyle would be all over it. Those guys don't grow on trees.

If Muzz was making $800k, you think I wouldn't want to gamble on him next year??

Yeah I understand this line of reasoning. Just trying to remove the hyperbole from lofs argument. I think he'd make a better case if he spoke in a more realistic way!

Muzz was more unlucky then bad this year. Considering he got the toughest usage of any dman on the team, he wasn't even bad by the nerdies:

The 4 guys at the top there got buttersoft usage. Holl also spent a bunch of time on the bottom pair.

Muzzin was always on the tough matchup pair

Muzzin and Brodie look about the same even though Muzz had tougher usage.

He did see a bunch more actual goals go in while he was on the ice, which is why everyone thought he sucked, but it was probably as much bad luck as bad play.

My man, he was very bad last year, and a very bad use of $6M as it turned out. If he was still injured and missed the first round, you'd be wanting to trade him too and would be calling his season a disaster. But those 7 games have injected so much hope into your broken heart, and I don't want to see the same or worse happen next year and have you to be hurt any further.

You know I don't rely on these stats in making my judgments. I mean, how many countless times did he have tons of time to make a play and get caught? How many times did he totally get skated around or blasted by for chances and goals? These stats can't erase all those memories.

If you can get pk for < 1m and he’s willing to spend some time in the press box then adding him as your 6/7 and trading holl might make sense.

PK isn't signing for less than a million anywhere. He'll make more doing his side stuff.

But that's his thing. If you remove that you're left with a plain Harveys chicken sandwich with no toppings
No toppings is crazy talk. The beauty of Harv's is that you get to see the fresh toppings added. Yum.

They have Chick Fil A here, which everyone flocks to, and I swear it's crap in comparison. I don't get the appeal.

Can't stand Chick-fil-A. Most overrated Christian bullshit. Did you know they donate to reeduction camps? Of course they don't call it that but if you're gay and Christian, Chick-fil-A does not have your back.

Maybe you should open the first Harvey’s franchise south of Niagara Falls.
