New Canadian Politics Thread

I have admitted fault and acknowledged that I'm the weird one for not enjoying be locked up at a resort. This doesn't make me better than anyone
Didn’t you at least put your feet in the pool? Make footprints in the sand?

Lol travel snobs in this thread.

resorts can be fun. Staying on the resort and not seeing the surrounding areas is a different story. Depends on the group/people you go with.
Yeah, I love to see the real part of a country, and if the only part of Mexico you see is just the resort, I will still say you haven't even been to Mexico really.

But if you do the resort right, you're there for a week, you have a couple days getting off the resort to see stuff in the local area and actually experience some local stuff, and the rest of the time you just sit at the beach or pool.

You might think you might not like it, but man, it's so easy... start your Pina coladas at 9 or 10 in the morning and you just have a buzz all day. It's fantastic. And frankly they're dirt cheap too. You're only spending a tiny bit more than like a "normal" hotel and you get free food, free booze, free entertainment, etc...

All inclusive resorts are a blast the first 1-2 times you go. It gets old fast though. I had a run of about 8 years when I went to one yearly. And I've done every "Excursion" you can possibly go.
I went to the swingers resort-Temptation resort in Cancun. That was interesting.

I just find I’m pretty into food and photography so while the beach resorts are lovely, I’m usually getting quantity in terms of variety for food instead of good local cuisine and there’s only so many photos I can take at a resort, because they look mostly the same to me. So that’s two big reasons I love travel kinda nullified.

Get why people do it though, certainly.

Yeah it all depends on what you want. And if I’m not diving, I want to be adventuring, not sitting by the pool/beach for a week. For a day or two, sure.

And that is especially so now that I’m no longer in private practice and go on vacation not just to restore my base energy levels and humanity but with energy to do fun stuff too.

Having said that, I can see how someone in private practice or a similarly demanding role would enjoy the resort life.

Forumice has several pretentious snobs on a wide variety of topics but I don't think not preferring a resort is an example of that. It may make one an outlier human being but I can't say that one size fits all travel makes much sense. Travel is about individual preference and if someone prefers to be adventurous and on foot and gets bored sitting by pools or beaches for an entire week straight, that is a weird thing to shame or call snobby.

It's your money, do whatever the hell you want. If you don't like resorts, don't go to resorts. If you like resorts, go to resorts.

You can do both though... I've dove while at resorts. Climed waterfalls while on cruises and had amazing local food as well.

Just depends on how much time and effort you want to put into planning your trip.

When I've done Europe I absolutely hated going from church to fucking church.

Louvre: awesome
Hermitage: awesome
Pompeii: one of the best places I've seen
Vatican: I'd rather get covid than see it again.

But what does this have to do with Canadian politics.

I made that claim in the movie thread for sure LOL

We were going to annex the Turks and Caicos

Its a safe, curated experience for people whose main goal is to get away from winter for a week and maybe do something cool like zip line over a jungle for an afternoon.

But the destinations themselves fade into the background and aren't the point of the trip. A resort vacation in Tulum is 95% the same as in the DR, Jamaica, wherever.

Nothing wrong with it, but I get where a "traveler" doesn't really consider it travelling.

the weirdest thing for me is people who go to the same resort every single year. Totally understand why some folks like to get the sanitized version of a place, if the resort provides them with what they need.

but going to the same resort in the same country every time seems crazy to me.

For me resorts are a decent place to meet up with family as opposed to coming back to Ontario all the time. They’re usually reasonably affordable and for many people they would rather not deal with the uncertainty of traveling off resort. Not for me though, all of my off resort travel have been the best experiences of my life. Not necessarily good but the best.
