Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

For sure. Imagine. Connor, Barzal, Konechty, Chabot, Boeser were all selected within 10 picks after. Of the three they did select, Debrusk turned out decent, perhaps passable. The other two picks were awful. Of course Timmins has messed up as badly, just not all in the same first round. He spread his screw ups over a generation.
And the crazy thing is, none of the players you mentioned would have been considered "reaches". One of the players they took, Jakub Zboril, was ranked around that range, but DeBrusk & Senyshyn were early to mid second rounders.

Goes to show, even Bawstun and one of the best scouting staffs in the league fuck up. And boy, did they ever fuck up badly.

Where ever Marner ends up, the return is going to be extremely underwhelming.

I'd be shocked if Toronto would get a haul like that.

And it's not because of Marner as a player; It's purely because of his contract.
I would assume they would trade him to a team that would sign him to an extension, similar to Dubois.

Even if they do, Marner's not going to net Toronto one (let alone two like Sal suggested) top prospects and then some.

My guess? Toronto will get a similar package to PLD: Three young, established (or trying to establish themselves) players and maybe a pick.

Capspace is much more valuable than what Marner brings.

So….Preds have $26M in cap space w 15/23 roster positions filled. Do they go Marner hunting by dangling Askarov + Molendyk in a package to Make Beliefs?

Discuss…
No state tax , but Saros is the key not Askarov

leafs cant go into camp with 2 question marks

Yes but there’s the importance of the business factor - non traditional hockey markets like Preds, Ana, now Utah see the rise of their brethren over last number of years (TBay, VGK, Fla, Canes, Dal) and their owners will want the same euphoria for THEIR teams

These markets will not slightly hesitate to pay the price IMO

Connor and Barzal cost them probably another finals appearance

Zaboril had limited pro offensive potential like Guhle

This draft makes Timmins look good

The new owner in Utah will make a splash , the others have had success

You think Nashville doesn’t trade Askarov and Molendyk for a signed Marner?? I think they do that in a split second.

Leafs need NHL players, tho. They've already fritted away too much of their Auston window

Leafs wont make that move , sets them back this year and there is no 16 available to use the cap on

Cant go the season with 2 young maybees in net

Good move if your rebooting to compete down the road , not the NOW

I think Askarov is a key piece of that trade personally. I know he's young but potential too big to ignore, plus he's still on entry level contract.
