Hockey Media & Business Thread

In the end, NHL teams won't sponsor a team where the players likely will be drafted by another team. The old system worked because the NHL owned the players on the junior teams and there was no draft

It is a fair defence/argument. He has not submitted to the jurisdiction so he should not have to appear. Never go under oath unless you have to do so. If Westneedshead was a fair journalist and not a scandal mongerer, he would set out that it is a fair defence.

Reporting on things that happened and backing it up with proof is not "scandal mongering". It's called "journalism". Yoi just don't recognize it because it's practically non-existent in the fancy world of sports.

If Bowman has nothing to hide he should be happy to cooperate. His refusal is a tacit admission of guilt.

You clearly do not understand the right to silence (and as you have stated re medical issues, you have not studied law, do not understand legal issues so you probably should just listen to the experts) If he attends, the ambulance chaser as you would call the lawyer questioning him, would just try to trip him up. Why put yourself through it if not necessary.

As for Westneedshead, when was the last time he reported anything positive? Why does he not do a story on junior players who haven't allegedly gang banged someone and how they respect the puck bunnies? Oh yeah it wouldn't get clicks.

Why do you presume that Westhead's or any other journalists job is to pump the tires of the home team or Hockey Canada or anything else? He's a fucking journalist, not a public relations flack. The job of any journalist is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Too many journalists, especially in sports, are only concerned about their own access and their perqs. A journalist isn't supposed to take someone's word for it; they're supposed to investigate. And when they find dirt they have a duty to report it.

I'm not talking about gossip like "Auston Matthews was spotted in a gay strip club" because, while hilarious, that's not in the public interest. I'm talking about "Eight members of the Team Canada Junior team gang raped a drunk woman and HC admin staff knew about it and covered it up" That is why journalism exists.

As for Bowman, he has the right to remain silent but his silence says a lot more than his words ever could. Simply put, innocent people shouldn't need to worry about being "tripped up" while on the stand. There's a word for people who worry about that. They're called guilty people.

As usual you missed the point entirely or you didn't and are being deliberately obtuse. You live on negativity.
