2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

So if they don't get Marchand, I hope they can address the marner replacement by trade instead! Ehlers could be fine maybe but they won't sign someone with his playoff stink.

Trade Carlo for a forward and then sign ekblad I guess

He has a boner to play for anyone but the leafs for awhile now. I believe that part of it since he refused to negotiate with Toronto. And Vegas was obviously highly interested and willing to pay up for him.

Then how was this not a bigger story all year and these lunkheads are all just reporting things now on the eve of him going UFA? Did Marner actually Tavares us all year without anyone really realizing it? I really can’t believe that.

It was publicly known that he refused to negotiate this year. You just chose not to believe that I guess.

Leafs have been trying to trade him since last summer. Discussed a deal with Theodore last summer, Rantanen this spring and I'm sure there's been more. They knew he was gone.

No, I knew he wasn’t negotiating, but I’d never think it was because he didn’t actually intend to resign, but rather because his money ask was going to be steep and more than Matty and he thought he needed a deeper playoff run to solidly justify the ask.

Oh ok. Yeah there's a whole bunch of smoke out there that he hasn't been happy with the leafs organization for quite some time and many bridges were burned. I tend to believe that stuff. And the leafs did too. They wouldn't be actively shopping him if they didn't.

Until the Rantanen thing, which just seemed like a Leafs effort to suss out his intentions and to deal him if he said he was not resigning, I don’t think there was any active shopping. And I think that only even came up because we said no to trading Knies and they came back asking for Marner.

They tried to trade him to Vegas for Theodore last summer.
