It still wouldn't make any sense if Berube was back. Like that's such an easy win/call.
It makes sense if ownership is telling Pelley that they don't want to "waste" $8M on his buyout, which clearly signals winning is of secondary priority.
It still doesn't make sense that Mats would voluntarily risk his legacy here if things were that opaque though. Unless he's just in it for the money too.
I read recently that 1 playoff game = about $10m in revenue for the Leafs. I don't think this is a money thing. They just wanna let the gm decide imo.8M isn’t that much. They just hired Sundin to be a glorified intern for millions

I love that the media hates this. Out of all of them, only Jonas criticized the Tre hiring. As far as I'm concerned, if you didn't attack or question that hiring, you've lost your privilege to speak about any general manager hire forever.
Granted, Jonas hates this one too. But still.
Why do people keep up with this money argument?
Treliving, Keefr, Babcock, etc were all fired with year(s) left on their contracts.
If these are the best anti takes then we're looking pretty good.
Cassidy just seems like too perfect an opportunity for an analytics minded gm.
