The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

It still wouldn't make any sense if Berube was back. Like that's such an easy win/call.

It makes sense if ownership is telling Pelley that they don't want to "waste" $8M on his buyout, which clearly signals winning is of secondary priority.

It still doesn't make sense that Mats would voluntarily risk his legacy here if things were that opaque though. Unless he's just in it for the money too.

8M isn’t that much. They just hired Sundin to be a glorified intern for millions

It was so weird that we had no interest in keeping Bunting and gave the money to Domi and Bertuzzi. Who are both worse and have less snot.

I love that the media hates this. Out of all of them, only Jonas criticized the Tre hiring. As far as I'm concerned, if you didn't attack or question that hiring, you've lost your privilege to speak about any general manager hire forever.

Granted, Jonas hates this one too. But still.

I read recently that 1 playoff game = about $10m in revenue for the Leafs. I don't think this is a money thing. They just wanna let the gm decide imo.

Honestly these articles/takes are only making me happier.

Seravelli trying to make hay out of "unsubstantiated" claims? Sigel writing a loooong article in which he actually says nothing more than "chayka former gm not qualified, all these other AGMs more qualified". And even better "chayka as gm and Sundin as veep of culture is so convoluted!!".

If these are the best anti takes then we're looking pretty good.

Logically it is ridiculous, yes.

Does a team that's making $10M/playoff game need to charge $1000 to have a kid skate the flag around the ice?

Jonas’ point was more like “is this really the best you could come up with ” but admits this could work

Dreger is clearly speculatig based only on his theory that "new gms generally keep the inherited cosch for a bit".

Why do people keep up with this money argument?

Treliving, Keefr, Babcock, etc were all fired with year(s) left on their contracts.

These takes are all silly. Let these guys make a few moves first!!!

My anti take would be that Pelley hired people that owe him and will treat him with reverence as opposed to hiring a Pat Brisson heavyweight type who’d be “please get the fuck out of my way after the press conference”

The idea that Berube’s fate wasn’t one of the job interview taking points is laughable.

Candidates come in with tons of solutions they can enact on day one

Old boys feeling threatened that their reign is over after the devils hired Mehta and now the Leafs Chayka. Changing of the guard. I love all of these "leaks" and criticism based on talking points that they've heard from other hockey execs.
