The pads today go up to just below the waist, you can"t skate fast with pads like that.. when i played the pads just went above the knees..

That, size of the goalie and equipment; when I played it was normal to have small goalies.. but man could I skate, I lived at the rink, spent every moment i could on the outdoor rinks playing with the older kids.. skating backwards was a must..
