2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Great concept in theory...from a practical standpoint, it won't happen.
And what I'd argue is that the practical concerns shouldn't matter to the NHL. It's a niche sport with an image problem. Hiring somebody the local fans might actually connect with is NOT a downside.

As opposed to music there are local actors who are big. Ken Jeong, Evan Rachel Wood, Michael C. Hall, Sharon Lawrence to name a few. Maybe one of them can do the ceremonial puck drop.

Brett Pesce had surgery on his right shoulder today. Recovery time is expected to be 4-6 months, so he should be ready for camp.

This is his 2nd right shoulder problem. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a chronic issue like de Haan has.

Stay away from the whole Hollywood scene. There are plenty of worthy locals to do that who actually might have accomplished something worthwhile in their lives.

Apparently the current issue is pretty much round two of the same issue he had in 2018. He avoided surgery then in favor of physical therapy and strengthening the joint, so hopefully surgery addresses the problem for good.

I don't get moving Gold to 12-3. That's basicslly an online listener time slot. I won't miss Glenn, he's is a windbag, in love with hearing himself talk. Whose shoes did Giglio piss in to be stuck with Ovies? He's basically incapable of providing anything other than snark.

I would think Giglio knew he was going to be with Ovies when he took the job. these days a newspaper job is not very stable so it is no surprise he moved to radio/TV.

Speaking of newspapers, starting tomorrow the N&O no longer has a print version on Saturday , it's web only.

Yea, joe is snark/troll city and gold is never wrong about ANYTHING. So him going to 12-3 is more than fine by me. Good riddance

Windbag... snark... never wrong... y'all just described 95% of every sports radio host ever didn't ya? I guess with SXM I don't listen to local enough to bother me.

I'm old enough to remember though when Pat Mellon and Morgan Patrick (even Mark Roberts as well, I forget?) passed for sports talk radio 'round here. (I'll excuse Solarte from this dragging, I thought he was actually pretty good at it before he jumped to Cable TV)

I don't remember Pat Mellon but I do remember Morgan Patrick (IIRC his real name is Patrick Morgan). Let's also not forget the days of Gordon Miller hosting a Saturday morning show.

XM radio is nice but it's good to have local options as well. I am OK with the local guys but I don't listen much. I hope they keep Steve Logan doing guest spots in FB season. Logan is top notch and funny too . I even saw a national writer say how good Logan is. I assume Glenn may try to go elsewhere but not sure where he can go locally.

Meh ... I don't really listen to local radio anymore. From what little I see from Gold he seems to be getting more dumb about hockey over time instead of the other way around, which makes me wish he wasn't WRAL's point guy for the Canes. Otherwise ... whatever. I do like the writing that Lauren Brownlow does for the WRAL site, and adding Giglio to their mix on that platform will probably mean the only sports writing I'll care about in the NandO is whatever DeCock is on about on a given day. The rest of their people are fairly horrible.

George Strait is playing indoor and stadium shows this year so he likely would be available if the price is right for a PNC show.

It might be for Martinook, he looked to be in some pain on the bench at the end.
Apparently Dzingle got dinged up in that "fight." Martinook is playing hurt AGAIN, but they feel like they need his leadership on the ice and in the room. Otherwise you'd sit him. Frankly, I'd sit Dzingle in favor of Geekie anyway. Zinger has been a black hole out there for a couple of months now.
