2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Just received an email from the Canes stating those of us on the auto renew plan for season tickets will have our next payment for 20-21 tickets (scheduled for May 1st) pushed off until June 1st. That effectively shifts all of the 9 remaining payments for the 20-21 season one month to the right (with the final payment falling in Feb instead of Jan). If you don't want that shift/deferment to happen you need to take action to avoid it.

They also mentioned that our used tickets (and their monetary value) for 19-20 will remain in limbo as long as the league can get away with keeping those games as postponed. I'm not worried that I won't get fair value back for those tickets as much as I'm interested to see if the Canes offer 'more than value' for those tickets if we elect not to ask for cash refund when games are finally cancelled.

I haven’t decided yet about deferring my payment.

The amount left for the 19-20 season is almost 20%, with 8 games of 43 not played. I doubt we’ll see “more than value” for them, unless they do some sort of future price protection, like they did for the lockouts. I’d be OK with that.

So nothing like cruise ships giving you 125% of your value as a future credit if you don't ask for a refund? Can I at least convince the Canes to give us 5% ?

You’re funny. The cruise ships can offer 125% because they know nobody is ever taking a cruise again.

You will get 5%. Sort of. When tickets for 21-22 go up, you’ll be held at 20-21 prices.

I've been told that the default position will be to roll any surplus ticket money into the following season's invoice balance, IF the remaining 19-20 games end up being cancelled. That's fine for those of us who plan to carry on with tickets for next season. I'm assuming they'd have to refund your funds if you opted out of renewal at that point.

Bottom line ... until they decide what to do with the remaining games in the 19-20 season schedule that are in limbo, then none of this matters a lot.

Really? Because roughly 75% of my cruise clients have taken those 125% future cruise credit offers and booked cruises in 2021. Of course, that's mostly Disney Cruise Line and Disney cruisers are ... umm ... a bit "special" sometimes.

You're just not special enough for DCL :0)

For the record, I sell about a half a million bucks of Disney cruises a year.

That may be the only cruise I’d ever get my wife on. She was almost convinced to try one, and then those 2 ships were stuck at sea and turned into floating Petri dishes..

Consider yourself lucky

Honestly, cruise ships are floating petri dishes at the best of times. One of the things that sets Disney apart from the other operators is their almost OCD level obsession with cleaning, so they're a LITTLE better in that regard ... yet, because it got stuck sailing out of a Covid19 hotspot (New Orleans) on a 14 day itinerary, the Disney Wonder is sitting in San Diego harbor right now with 30 some odd sick crew members. Nobody was spared this time, except by good fortune and good timing.

FSC showing 2006 final game on Monday and other games will be shown later.

They‘re showing the 4 wins. Games 2, 4 and 7 will be broadcast Tuesday - Thursday. John and Tripp will open the broadcasts with their view. the first 3 games will have the NHL world feed with Rick Peckham and Joe Micheletti. Game 7 will be the NBC broadcast with Doc and John Davidson.

I guess nobody noticed Williams said he's retiring after this season.
I'm not sure I would classify it as definitive, but he's certainly leaning that way...

I subscribe to several hockey-related podcasts and listened to that Two-Man Advantage episode earlier today.

I do not think Justin at all said that he was going to retire. But between the headline teaser and the bad "didn't hear it, but this is what he said" takes, this one got a bit out of hand.

He is basically saying the same thing he was saying the previous season, that he has not yet decided and will have to let the answer come to him. Did add, as he did before, that he was comfortable if that was his last game. But in no way did he say it was his last game.

Don't get me wrong, would be surprised if it was not. But not as definitive as the social media rumors would make it sound like...not just yet.

Context was that the interview question was speculating about what if the season did not resume and he had perhaps played his last game without realizing it. So kind of open-ended musing followed.

For those of you who subscribe, don't miss Sara Civian's piece today on the results of The Athletic's first survey of Canes fans...
My submissions that I made to the survey all made the top spot when the results were posted, the most important one was the Canes biggest need...it was the need for a #1 goalie. I thought overall that survey was very in tune and realistic with the state of the team and the direction moving forward, great to see much of the fanbase surveyed all on the same page with their thoughts and opinions.
