2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

RBA says Hamilton is still day to day but he’s hopeful for the next round.

According to the media availabilities this morning, Jaccob Slavin is the best Catan player, Martinook the worst. I still haven’t opened my box to figure it out. Apparently, there is going to be a spike ball tournament at BMO Field today. Stay tuned for the results.

No shock there. It's very much a game that rewards patience and long term strategic thinking. Slavin fits the bill a lot more than Mr. Crazy Pants.

Really good Luke article today about the art and science of skate sharpening. Brett Hedican still sends his skates to Wally. If I could skate like him, I would too, even though he can’t be using them that much. His girls were figure skaters, not hockey players. And Matt Cullen owns one of Wally’s machines, to sharpen his sons’ skates.

During the 2004-05 lockout, Wally was at the RecZone every day anyway. My daughter got spoiled by himself sharpening her blades. She got them sharpened so frequently, she had to have the blades replaced, but that was really easy with the old CCM ProTacks skates. She had to have her skates sharpened somewhere else one time and couldn't wait to get back so Wally could fix them.

Beautiful rinks, cannot wait until things open up to a point where I can take my son out for a skate at the new place!

Can't wait(*) until our beer league starts up again over there! Hopefully we left the ol' ceiling mold monster at RCI.

(*) other than that whole pandemic thing... I'm still not ready to think about playing hockey in public right now

Brought my blades to Wally during the lockout as well.... he balanced them and sharpened... like freakin' night and day awesome compared to having them done anywhere else before or since.

Wally did mine for a while they I found the guy who ran the skate shop at the ice plex. I think he studied under Wally and he did an outstanding job then moved to Finland. Then it was hit and miss with the 5-hole.

still no word on Charlotte or Chicago for AHL team. It's been a couple of months with no announcement.

from twitter: Jack Johnson now 8-22 in the playoffs. Has never won a round. 1-6 with the Penguins

Lots of love from Sharp and Olczyk for Aho’s line. Sharp played on a line with Teravainen and loved how Turbo always put the puck in a perfect shooting position for him.

By the way, on NHL network they just showed how they are handling the ads on the boards. Not virtual, they are really manually changing the ads before each game around the boards. The ads for each team were all boxed and ready to use.

We get the Bruins. They got better as the game went on and Rask played well.
They did, but they are far from sharp. Everything at this point is a crap shoot, but I figure coming out for Game 1 with guns blazing would be a good idea for the Canes. Just go at them exactly the same way Philly did the other day ... with a complete lack of respect.

Bergeron’s line and their PP killed us last year. That line did neither jack nor squat in the round robin, Bergeron had 1 assist and Marchand and Pastrnak were held off the score sheet. At some point they’re going to remember who they are, so it will be key to control that line. Boston has “home” ice so it will be interesting to see who Cassidy matches them up with.
