2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

My kid logged so many minutes during this year's Readvolution that she got *two* free tickets to Hurricanes games. I spent both free tickets on one game and upgraded us to downstairs seats. The upgrade cost only $50 total! We're going to the Sunday matinee Vancouver game in February.

She logged the most minutes of any 4th grader at Adams Elementary so she got to dump slime on her principal during a Saturday make-up session a month or so ago.

See? Reading *does* pay off!

TLDR /sarcasm

Well, go log those minutes that you spent reading my post! Maybe you'll get to slime your principal as well

@CapFriendly: #Rangers Adam Fox played in his 30th game of the season this past Tuesday against LA.

As a result, the 2020 3rd RD pick that NY sent to Carolina as part of the trade for Fox, has now been upgraded to a 2020 2nd RD pick instead.

Now we all need to hope the Rangers fall off a cliff and that second rounder is in the early 30's in round 2! For those keeping score at home, the Canes now have two first rounders and two second rounders in the 2020 draft!!! That's great draft capital to have in your pocket both for shopping at the trade deadline and at the draft table.

And two thirds, I believe...Doublemint Triplets

Indeed. As things stand right now, Carolina has two picks in each of the first THREE rounds in the 2020 draft. Thank you, Toronto, New York (R) and Buffalo. I don't see Toronto going so much sideways that their top ten pick protection kicks in. In fact, I expect them to make the playoffs. They're only 2 points out of 2nd in that dumb division of theirs. So, you're probably looking at two middling picks in each of the three rounds. Carolina has plenty of ammo to load up a deadline deal, or perhaps to package to move up a bit for a targeted draft selection.

My best guess here is the Wings wanted some experienced North American blueline Depth and Kyle Wood gives them that. On the flip side for the Canes, Kaski has more potential upside.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Wings call up Kyle Wood and play him sometime in the near future. Their current active blueline includes:

Filip Hronek - 2nd year NHLer (2016 NHL 2nd rounder) 30 games 14 points -13
Dennis Cholowski - 2nd year NHLer (2016 1st rounder) 29 games 8 points -22
Mike Green
Patrick Nemeth
Jonathan Ericsson
Trevor Daley
Alex Biega
Dylan McIlrath

and they have Danny Dekeyser on IR

Honestly the Wings would be best served by getting anything they could for their vet blueliners like Green, Nemeth, Ericsson, Daley, Biega or McIlrath and seeing if a guy like Kyle Wood can at least not humiliate himself out there at the NHL level. Kaski is way too green to the NA game to throw out there at this point.

That is my guess, they view Kyle Wood as someone they can actually play at the NHL level and Kaski wasn't going to be ready to do that this year.

My understanding is that Kaski was really struggling to adjust to the North American game and was having trouble even carving out a role for himself in Grand Rapids. Kyle Wood meanwhile, was only a part timer in Charlotte ... playing 14 games out of 24. He had problems adjusting to Carolina's systems and was probably just never going to fit at all. While the Canes get more upside out of this deal, I think Detroit had given up on Kaski and just wanted to get what they could for the guy.

And based on what he's done in Charlotte, the only reason you put Kyle Wood on the blueline of your NHL team is to tank.

Julien Gauthier was assigned to Charlotte today. Congrats on your first point, kid. Back to the AHL for you.

Unless of course, it’s a paper transaction and he never went back to Charlotte...
